maybe u should just shake up the exercises a bit, i'm not entirely sure what you're doing/or have been doing lately, try some of this:
Squats - front squats (know u dont like them), hack squats
Deadlifts - Sumo? Single Leg DLs? Pullthroughs
Single Leg - Pistol Squats, bulgarians with front foot on box
Olympic Lifts - dont think u do these at all
Horizontal push - close grip bench, alternate DB press
Horizontal pull - rope seat rows (like face pulls)
Vert push - single arm DB Press
Vert pull - singe arm pulldowns, pause pull ups (stop at 3 points on way down)
have you tried any of these new exercises yet?

Well so much for my good intentions of writing up workouts!!!!! I've been living a crazy life, so no time to post any workouts and hadn't even been online for over a week. Meant to post my workouts now, but its nearly 1am and I have to be up at 7am, so can't be bothered to write up 5 days of weight training
Instead I have been looking into getting some EX BATTERY HENS FOR MY GARDEN!!!! wwww.bhwt.org.uk. It would be so good to give them a "nice" life, after their time in darkness, never seeing daylight or feeling the grass beneath their feet.
In reply to above PikeKing, you know that I did HACK SQUATS and WALKING DB LUNGES for a change last week.
I will do CLOSE GRIP BENCH PRESS tomorrow, as I haven't done that for a while.
Not so keen on 1 arm stuff.
P.S. DEADLIFTS STILL RULE!!!!!!!!!!

Yes thinking of 4 getting 4 hens. Need more really, you know how I LOVE eggs! Giving them freedom and a happy life is my main priority.
If I give you my training diary, can you write up my workouts, you know how slack I am at bothering to type it up on the computer.

I LOVE MY CATS SO MUCH:049::049::049:
Surprisingly I have glute DOMS again. Can't think what is causing it, I do Lunges, Squats and deadlifts every week so it can't be that. It may be the pull back climb in RPM, but even thats unlikely as I've been teaching Indoor cycle for 6 years, without glute DOMS. It's a mystery!

5 reps of 90kg deadlifts today.
Aim is to deadlift 100kgs for 5 reps by Christmas. That will be quite good for weak gal weighing about 60kg.
Yoga Retreat was fab too! Most of it was in Silence, so wanted to Scream and Shout alot when I left.
make that 100kg for 5 by halloween.

I had to post today, as I've been spending too much time on "MUSCLE TALK" which annoys the boss. I have a regime that should see me deadlifting 100kg by Halloween, if all goes to plan.
Have you considered trying for that 100kg deadlift now? I mean, you can do 90kg for a few reps already, so it's possible that you already have 100kg. Just a thought:)

I will deadlift 100kg, I need to have a Squat goal too!
At muscle talk there are too many people. Therefore the advice is often incorrect, conflicting and you don't know why they have given it. Take Narc, Pikeking and KMP all as opposite from each other as you can get.....but because of the smaller more intimate nature of Iron City I know their backgrounds, training philosophies and reasoning behind their advice or rants in Tim's case.
I seem to be jumping all over your posts recently :jedi::040:
PikeKing

I find Muscle Talk so much friendlier than this site........................it's very clicky here. It is kind of like the Judo brigade against the Strongman brigade. Judo people should start showing an interest in the Strongmen Journals, after all this is "IRON CITY" a weight training forum!
Before, anyone says Practice what you Preach, remember that I am not online anymore than twice a week ussually. I do try to read journals though.
ultimately the judo brigade will win
the grappler always wins
plus the head strongman gay and the huge judo homo have been conspiring lately
I don't find it remotely cliquey. While I don't share identical goals to many here, we all have a fair amount in common and I enjoy the insights i get into others training whether it be judo/bjj, strongman or PL. I post on fortified-iron as well and while the knowledge base, especially for PL, is very high I prefer IC as it feels more like a uhhh well a community i suppose (and there's fewer unhinged american gun nuts).

I must agree, I'm hardly pro active, when it comes to writing up workouts online, but I do always hand write them in my diary. Sounds weird, but I prefer handwriting to typing. Typing up lists are a bit tedious and computers are not my favourite thing in the World.

AD it aint that clicky here. granted i agree with you about the weighlifting forum thing, but the judo peeps do weightlifting too. i dont read any of the MA journals at all, simply because it doesnt interest me and i have no idea what any of it means, apart from the gym training.
but when it comes to advice on training most of the MA peeps have some ideas, KMP particularly has good knowledge and your pikey bloke.
you can find fat pete at sugden barbell too, google the site and get on the forum.
good luck on the quest for 100k, but FFS, put more weight on the bar and go for a higher number, especially considering what steve said. ;)

Like yourself, MA does not interest me (even though I did Tae Kwon Do, for a few years and got to red belt. I only actually stopped doing it because the instructors wife sadly committed suicide, due to post natal depression! It doesn't really interest me in doing it again, I've done it and got that t-shirt!). I very rarely read the MA/Judo Journals, but I occassionally dip in, just to be polite.
I really enjoy reading the Strongman and Power Lifting stuff, any anything to do with training with weights really. Although, I am an extreme cardio bunny, due to my job, weights are a passion!
Not all the MA people actually do weight training on here! KMP does have a good knowledge of pretty much everything agreed!

I do. However, it is random as you like. I don't have any inclination to actually stick to a programme which is why my journal looks like crap.
I read all the journals but I don't really have anything to offer in the way of advice for anyone on here. I enjoy watching strongman events and olympic lifting too. My main passon is MMA which is why I only really chime in when PK starts a related thread or I put my own one up. Otherwise I am here to learn. There is a fair bit of experience and the members here run the gammut as far as choice of sports and interests go. It's a good forum and the best out of the 3 that I regulary visit.

I think you should do as you please in your training sessions, if it works for you. As long as you throw in a few Compound exercises, its going to work.

Wasn't meant to be a slight in any way. Just my ignorance shining through if I'm honest. I don't visit the site too often, however, when I do I see random 1RM stuff, a few oly lifts, shit loads of pull ups and psycho cardio bursts. I did about 7 hours of various exercise classes including RPM Cycle, Body Pump endurance weights, Body Attack High Impact Cardio, Body Balance Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Body Combat Martial Arts Style Class, Body Step High Intensity Cardio on a box and Body Vive Low Impact Aerobics with conditioning work. Bit Knackered now, especially as it included nearly 6 hours driving there and back.
Weather was appalling on the journey back and there was an accident on the M25, which caused traffic congestion! Apart from that, it was a fun day.
Better hit the sack soon, I need lots of Beauty sleep.

The next plan is to start doing deadlifts whilst standing on a platform, ie; step box. I have been told this will help my progress! (from a good source). Flexibility won't be a problem when using a box, due to doing lots of Yoga.
Depends what your weak point is in the DL really. Off the floor or lockout?
Not sure the height of your step box but its always painful watching people doing it from a fair height as your riskinig an injury. I personally wouldn't go much higher than 75mm.
Like JB said you should vary the height you pull from in training.
Yup, depends where your weakness lies. Maybe get a vid of your next attempt?

95kg DL x 3 reps yesterday. Surely, it can't be that hard to lift an extra 5kg!!
Thanks for your comments guys above, appreciated!
I'm not too concerned about risking injury with the on the box DLs, I am blessed with not being injury prone and also being flexible thanks to Yoga daily. I do shed loads of exercise a day, one month I did 49 Spin Classes on top of everything else, and did not get injured. I do agree, that this type of training can leave you open to injury though, and see alot of poor technique in the various gyms I work at.
I know my weakness is grip and I have hands the size of a Childs!!!!! Pathetically small hands and feet!
I feel confident I am on track for a 100kg before Halloween. Afterwards, I need to concentrate onmy pathetic, weak bench press. My shoulders are as strong as my chest. Crazy!
With a triple at 95 you could do it now, probably 110.

I'm only a small girl, every extra KG makes a big difference to me. However, thanks for the vote of confidence!!
Sounds a bit girly, but I think I may remove my 5 rings, next time, they really dig into my fingers! SAD, I wear them I know, but I want to be STONG but FEMININE LOOKING, if you know what I mean, not look like a Russian Shot Putter!

Actually, your comment is really sweet. I tried for 100kg, after a week off weight training, when I returned from holiday, so I may well be able to do it now. I won't try till next Wednesday though.
I think the week off weights has actually helped me, I do punish my body week in and week out.
Cool, good luck. And yeah, ditch the rings.

You should wear a pink beanie, like Becca Swanson, to make yourself look girly.
A pink beanie sounds cool! Becca Swanson has long hair so I guess that kinda helps her with looking feminine. I have to take my rings off to train, they are quite chunky and the bar never feels secure if I leave them on. I train on my own at home :( in my little garage so I guess it doesn't matter if I look feminine or not as no one sees me!!

Although I work at several gyms, I find garages are often the best places to train. No distractions, no cheesy music, no one invading your personal space, no dick heads........ hope to convert one of my garages into a gym in the future.

A possible minor setback, I stepped on some broken glass in the studio when doing Yoga in bare feet!!!!! No idea why there should be broken glass in an exercise studio!! I feel a Health and Safety rant coming on to Management!!
My foot is quite painful!!
I still managed to teach spin and a few other cardio classes today somehow. (I think endorphins were running high!) However, when I went to "Dogs Trust" to do my volunteer dog walking my foot started to hurt more and more and I ended up limping round the woods, with the last dog.

What type of dog was walked?!
Angel Delight
03-10-2008, 22:12
I walked 4 dogs today. Sparky a huge Border Collie who is muzzled because he has been known to attack dog walkers and is temperamental. I have developed a bond with him over the years, he is like a pussy cat with me, even rolls on his back so I can stroke his tummy. I have seen him behave aggressively, but never to me, he is one of my favourites.
I also walked Ashley a long term problem dog who bit off his owners nose!! and 2 new comers, who were adorable and hopefully won't be long term residents. A Belgiun Shepherd Cross called Kia and a muscular looking laborador/Retriever called Sam. I fell in love with both of these dogs. I often do. I always want to take them all home, but I can't have a dog of my own, due to very rarely being a home.

Was going to go for the 100kg DL on Wed, so hope this doesn't prevent me from doing so!
I have got some lifting straps, that I used to use occassionally 3 years ago, so thought I may have a go at the 100kg using them.............or I might just go for it bare back

I've got to agree with you here. I've done the gym training thing in the past, but now have a nice little set up in my garage where I can play my own choice of cheesy music, don't have to wait for equipment and don't have to worry about what I look like when I'm training (not that I ever really did).
Yep. Garage set up is great, I'm the only d*ck head in my gym ha ha !

The fact I still have a sore foot from stepping on glass, when doing Yoga, may hinder my progress I reckon, as my heel hurts when squatting , lunging and deadlifting.
But that sounds like an excuse, so I'm not going to consider failing.

if u have a bit of glass in there you need to get it sorted and as you've left is so long you're going to need x-ray/ultrasound to find out and u know how long it take to get an appointment, get to GPs asap.
also dont dont any heavy lifting, as you're not going to lift with even pressure, great way to get an injury!

Come on Young Jeidi, you know I've never had an injury! A Nurse participant had a look at it today, after the Spin Class, she said she thinks I have a fragment of glass still lodged in the heel, so need to seek some medical advice.

Well Tiny 1976, it doesn't look a if you are coming back to Iron City and I can't say I blame you! I don't know if you will even get to read this, but I want to apologise for what happened to you!
In fact I am so pissed off and upset by the way you were treated, that I am going to take a break from this forum for a few months.
Generally, I am a positive person, but everytime I come on this site and see your Journal I feel quite upset by it! I try to avoid negativity in my life as negativity creates more negativity, so the only solution is to disappear for a while. Also, I do not want to be associated, with a forum, that is willing to treat another human being so appallingly.
I have 3 friends who live with dyslexia, all doing brilliantly, but it's not an easy thing to overcome, especially when writing on a forum, and a couple of those posts were downright hurtful and could seriously damage a persons self confidence! One particular POST was disgraceful, it brings tears to my eyes thinking about it.
People on here will probably think oh Miss Goody Two Shoes is being Holier than Thou again, but who cares, I don't! I feel your pain. Your reaction, proved you were very upset by this.
Hope you can move on Tiny, there are plenty of other forums around, with people who will support you in your training. Good Luck with your training and wishing you all the best.

I've been away from this forum for about 5 months now, and I said I would be back when I could deadlift 110kg. I actually haven't achieved that yet, but hope to do a 1RM on Wed, so to prove my confidence, I'm wriiting this now. Just lately I've been doing higher reps with lighter weight in preparation for the 1RM.
Just got back tonight from "Fitness Fiesta" which involved 12 hours of exercise over 2 days, so I need a bit of a rest before the DL on Wed, not sure if I will get it though!

Chi, had to laugh at your Halloween comment, I have a feeling of De ja Vu! Last Summer you challenged me to do a 100kg DL by Halloween 2008!! You must associate me with Halloween, I wonder why lol. You've noticed my progress is slow, slow but sure. I always get there eventually!!
Last summer you said you wanted 100kg by Xmas. Halloween was my suggestion to motivate you to speed progression along. I remember random shit, hence my repetition of the date.

Thank you 666. It's my own fault for not looking where I was going, I was trying to take a short cut, and running across a busy junction, with traffic coming from all directions. Bit depressing really, I've had to take a week off weight training due to my head injury and concussion. Hard for me, coz I never take time off, unless I'm on holiday! I had time off work too, so not much exercise at all, other than the 2 Spin Classes I took yesterday and tonight and 5 and a half hours of dog walking at Dogs Trust today.
Back with a vengence next week!!! Do or Die!

I'm starting a new program tomorrow. I will be weight training 3 times a week, i would like to do 4 times, but haven't got the time or energy, with the 20 to 30 hours a week of exercise classes that I do.
I'm going to follow the 5/3/1 program as PK has persuaded me that I can't keep maxing on everything all the time.
Here are the maxes I'm basing the workouts on:
SQUAT 120 x .9 = 108
BENCH 40 x .9 = 36
DEADLIFT 110 x 9. = 99
MILITARY PRESS 40 x .9 = 36
Week 1 day 1
This is my plan for tomorrow
Squats
3 warm ups sets
65% X 5 = 70kg
75% x 5 = 80kg
85% X 5 or more = 92kg
Plus additional exercies
4 x 10 RDLs
4 x 10 Lunges
4 x 10 Heavy Abs
You've got a 120 squat! Nice.
Angel Delight
29-03-2009, 21:17
Yes 1RM. Pretty good, as I'm quite petite and its double my body weight. I've built up to it over 6 years, so it's been slow progress. I'd probably be stronger, if I didn't do as much CV, but I'm not gonna stop doing that, as it pays me mega bucks.

My handicap is bench press and any kind of chest work. I can shoulder press the same weight as I can bench press. I have tried everything to improve it, I find it really difficult. Many years ago, Scourge told me woman aren't physiologically built to bench press, so I always use that as my excuse!
Double bodyweight squat is sweet, I'm jealous and I certainly don't do 20+ hours of cardio a week! Better to have a decent squat than a decent bench, that's for sure.

Haven't given an update on here since June. Still weight training and progressing, except for chest. I haven't done any 1RM s for a while, so I feel I may when I return from my cruise. Could not train yesterday, due to a painful blister on the sole of my foot, which I got from doing a walk that was suppossed to be 25 miles long, but turned into a 38 mile walk on Saturday.
