I did them for a while, but did them totally wrong, so my experiences are probably best ignored.

Your first major hurdle will be the technique - Not only is it quite hard, but you're chances of finding somebody who can show you how to do it are precisely dick, so you'll need to spend lots and lots of time researching it and teaching yourself.

I believe a good indicator of expected bent press weight is your strict OHP weight i.e. they should be about equal, assuming you can bent press properly. Unfortunately, I can one-handed power snatch more than I bent press, which is a bit of a bummer.

make sure you nail the form right man, as it's a very complicated lift, so i would say just say use the bar for now

whats a bent press?
Good question.

In short, it's not very much like a one-handed snatch squat with a side bend, except it's performed slowly.

Ummm... Photos anyone?

dumbell or a barbell?
A barbell. Traditionally a six-foot barbell was used in competition.

Also remember that this was back in the days before rotating barbells existed. If you've got a Beng bar, try using one of those.

That series shows the lifter finishing in the 'bent position'.

Other descriptions of the lift have the lifter squatting under the weight after that i.e. with the bottom position for the bent press and the one-handed barbell squat snatch as identical.

I know, which is why I didn't point that out.

"Look at this series. It shows the same thing as some other series I've seen" doesn't really add much.
