What do you guys have after workouts? Just plain old whey?

Anything else?

Creatine?
Dextrose?
Maltodextrin?
BCAAs?
Glutamine?

what does your cocktail give you numbers wise?

Usually milk. But from this day forth:

100g dextrose + 40g whey + vit C + 6g creatine + water. (Immediately PWO)

Then 1-2 hours later:

40g dextrose + 40g whey + 6g creatine + water.

do you have that immediately pwo? ifso that would take some time to process in comparison to water n whey.

i used to have whey (at least 50g) n maltodextrin (about 30g) in water pwo.

then i changed to only whey in water. about 60g.

now - whey and any simple carb source - fruit juice as i've got loads of it and best before is a few months away. still got lots of malto too.

When I start training again my post workout meal will be something basic like oats + whey + banana in water, but when I really start to up my kcals it will be something like:

Solid meal 1.5 - 2 hours pre training (low GI carbs + solid protein)

20g whey in water + a banana 30 mins pre-workout

20g whey in water immediately post workout

30 minutes later, 20g whey in water and high GI carbs such as cereal and natural low fat yoghurt

2-3 hours later, low GI carb solid based meal

Yes, and I don't care. People worry too much about stuff like this. There's plenty of protein there and simple sugars too.

Some of you guys are seriously selling yourselves short with the amounts of protein you're putting in your shake imo. Do you honestly think that after you've annihilated your muscles with an intense training session that your body can't make use of more than 20-40 grams of protein??

Very true. Though you may want to consider this: I have recently been talking to a lecturer at uni who asserts that while your muscles can assymilate that much protien under the right conditions, you simply don't have the digestive capabilites to get more than 50-60g of protien through your gut in a short space of tiem (the PWO window being about 45mins). There just aren't enough enzymes and shit to break the protien down fast enough to allow it to enter the bloodstream.

PWO it is better to have 2-4 smaller carb/protien drinks over the space of several hours rather than 1-2 big ones like Alex has (and I used to have) as you will end up shitting/pissing it out later.

what about necking 30g pre/during workout and then 30g post workout?

Robert

Better.

My ideal would be:

Pre - 20g protien + 40-60g simple carbs + water. Drink this about 10mins pre workout so its fueling you as you go.
Immediately post - 50g protien + 100g simple carbs + water + anti oxidants.
45min-1 hour later - 50g protien + 30g simple carbs + water.
Then if you can stomach it, another one of the same in another hours or so.
Then get on the steak and milk ;)

Thats a total of 120g protien & 190-200g simple carbs, but spread out so you can actually make use of it.

Kinda have days where I agree with Narc'. Infact, up till recently I made great gains not giving a flying shit about nutrition.
