well oily fish for startes, nuts and rape seed oil are my main sources, i buy mixed nuts and raisins and cans of sardines or makeral
I am eating about a half kilo of salmon a day ATM. Nuts I am having a break form as they are getting very boring. Any other ideas?

Rob, make of it what you will but the Food Standards Agency says that we shouldn't eat more than four portions of oily fish in a week. You eat that much in a day.
Beng, i'm not a fan of rapeseed oil either. Is it in a clear glass bottle?

As in;
"eating that much salmon will do more harm than drinking 2 glasses of wine a day."
Or, as in;
"Eating that much salmon is like having a mars bar more than once a year."
What kind of 'shouldn't' are we talking about here?

I have no idea what the effects of eating very large amounts of oily fish would be in the long term but I wouldn't do it.
The problem is the sea is polluted as heck so as a result the fish are polluted.
The omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA found in the oily fish are great for health though so oily fish is a good addition to a diet but once you start eating large amounts you get too much heavy metals in your diet which could have consequences long term.

For a start, mackerel and sardines are further down the food chain compared to predatory fish such as salmon, so the contamination should be less.

From my knowledge, Rapeseed oil and vegetable oil are different - veggie oil is hydrogenated to give it the taste, and rapeseed oil isn't

Boxer, thanks for the response. I am aware of the heavy metal contaminants in large predatory sea fish such as tuna. I chose salmon 'cos for half its life its a fresh water fish.
Thanks for the info, though I am still skeptical TBH mate. I mean, if you do any reading into phytoremediation you will realise that plants (grass for example) are capable (and this is exploited by clever people, more recently in urban regeneration: woodland/grassland establishment on landfill sites etc) of cycling contaminants and heavy metal pollutants out of the air and water courses. Cows and sheep eat grass. Getting the picture?
So whats the solution? I can't live off mackerl for the rest of my life, it ****ing stinks!

Only fresh sashimi tuna would be from a large tuna. All the tinned tuna is from small school tuna such as "skipjack" and the like

It just tastes horrid after the first few again. I used mackerl exclusively for a 2 month bulk last year and I can barely even smell the stuff without wanting to vomit these days. Also, shitting oil isn't plesant.

Lol @ bufftechnitian, do egg yolks contain effas btw?
My mum gets these GM ones that have the white as mostly EFA's and not protien. My dad makes her buy the real ones though.
Think I heard somewhere that farmers now add flax seed etc to the chickens diets so that the egg yolks contain omega 3,6,9.
