View Full Version : health and safety my arse! Gym bureocrats in action

****ing management bureocrat suit bastards.

I train at sudgen centre manchester. It's a student gym, kind of owned by the uni but the management is outsourced to these thieving bastards, the typical story.

The centre has an old free weights area: basic, spit and sawdust feel to it, has everything you would need: bench, rack, plates, and some useless stuff there as well. Everything old and quite broken.

They also opened a spanking new section: shiny chrome and fern stuff, hammer strength equipment. Has a bench and rack as well, but they are usually taken by the casual trainers. The place is very busy during peak hours.

Now the bastards are closing down the old section, and get this:

because they can't monitor adequately that all users of that room have gone through the induction session

WTF! They cite health and safety, but:

a. Anyone who dares to step to the old free weights area have at least the same level of knowledge of using the weights than the inductors.

b. The induction session is a useless tour of facilities, and then few minutes of demoing with machine weights. It doesn't even cover free weights!

c. It will be dangerous for us heavy lifters to go to the new spanky area with our grunting, shouting and chalk. I do not want to squat next to these casual lifters who walk too close by while sipping Evian and create dangerous situations.

If this happens, i am out of there, i'll start training at Moss Side or get a home gym.

Things can only go downhil when the management do not know their barbell from a dumbell!

sorry guys, just had to vent this out :011:

Get all the freeweights guys to train in the fern & chrome section, grunting, snarling, screaming, spraying chalk, blood and vomit everywhere, see if they won't give you the other place back then.

Home gyms obviously rock, but does any one else get this feeling we're being pushed out of gyms and marginalised into garages ?

Come on fcukers WE'RE the big men !!!! We're at the top of the fcuking food chain!!! These cnuts should be pandering to OUR every beck and whim for fear that if they dont we'll powerclean them and throw 'em out of a window.

I wonder how easy it is to powerclean a human... Could be tough if they're wriggling, so maybe we should knock them out first then lift and chuck. That or rip their heads off and sh1t down their throats a la Duke Nukem.

Certainly has a feeling things are going that way, the biggest downside of this factor is when you do need to lose a few lbs you dont have access to excellent cardio equipment

Home gyms are definately the way to go, avoid people at all costs!

the sole reason why i am sitting on a fence about a home gym is that we are planning to move out of UK in about a years time. Where, we don't know, but we would like to move anyway!

So buying a £700 home gym now at this stage would be quite a waste of money if you break it down per month or so. I guess we could sell the racks/weights etc afterwards and get most of it back that way...

Its here, its real and its happening. Benders and Metro's are taking over. THE IDIOTS ARE WINNING.

I strolled into my gym today, all casual like, and made a bee-line for the squat rack. I was planning on doing a spot of deadlifting only today something was different. Usually either side of the rack are two 3" thick rubber mats for the bar to rest on when deadlifting. However they had dissapeared.

I went and spoke to an instructor who informed me that they'd been taken but he didnt know why. I subsequently spoke to the manager who told me he'd removed them because he wanted to discourage people from lifting heavy weights! Im not entirely sure what the rationale behind this was but the 2 main points i belive were A)the noise and B)it putting off the middle aged women and sweatband-sporting-quifters.

When I proceeded to argue with him that it wasnt going to stop people deadlifting, just mean he'd have to shell out for a new floor in a couple of months he proceeded to point to the sign above the entry saying "Fitness Centre" ...."see mate", he said, it says "Fitness Center, not bodybuilding place".

The rage I felt and the distinct possibility of me simply smashing the beardy cnuts face to shit dissuaded me from arguing the points about strength being a component of fitness and me not being a bb'er.

I deadlifted anyway but the point is that this is happening in gyms everywhere. There MUST be lots of us....boards like this are swarming with enthusiatic lifters....i dont know what the answer is.

Call him a **** and switch gyms.

Saying that, I tried to join a 'hardcore powerlifting' gym and the guy wouldnt even let me freeweight bench press 'for 3 months' !

****ing faggots......well, you saw the owner of the gym that I've been invited too, don't reckon I'll have any problems deadlifting (on his TWO lifting platforms :D )

stuff like this makes me sick, it effects me a lot more than most as I have to work in this environment. I'm part of a PT team, the field I work in is strength/bodybuilding and core/back rehab.

How the hell am I supposed to work on strength training and bodybuilding with DBs thats max at 32kg! No Squat Rack! A leg press that maxes at 190kg and cables that dont even hit 30kg!

Apparently its because people dont want heavy weights, strange that, what about all the guys and girls using the freeweights area!? Instead we have a gym full of shitty RT machines that move around if you move any decent weight on them and then a room full of CV machines that break more often than not.

I've pissed of the management by bringing in thick bars, DBs, etc... I'm not technically meant to use adjustable DBs with clients because they are a health risk!!

Whats more of a health risk? Using adjustable DBs with an experienced, dedicated and knowledgeable PT or a Gym being run by a management team who spend more time curling pints and kebabs than doing any exercise what so ever. That gives the customer what they want rather than what they need, so they get bugger all results. There are people walking round that gym that look the same now as they did in september 03 when the place opened. Whilst my clients, in a month are stronger, more flexible, have a higher lean mass and more stability than they have had in their entire lives.

Thank you very much corporate fitness you ****ing ******, thank you especially LA Fitness for taking over my gym and ****ing it up and filling it full of ****tards.
