I have been looking for an exact answere to this for a little while: Why does everyone say, "Whey should only be used as a supplement to real food, not replace it?" If it has a higher BV than most meats, a better amino acid profile and better bio-availbility and everthything should it not be superior? What advantage does real food have that im missing?

youd have to have a lot of whey to stop you feeling starving, fibre is lacking in whey for 2 things off the top of my head

I have decided to start a little cutting myself and right now I'm consuming 200g in whey,as a vegeterian,my usual options are eggs, cheese, milk, beans but now that i'm cutting, whey just seems more of an attractive option to me as it has the lowest calories/carbs/fat content plus it also the cheapest source of protein to me.

Good question, i use a shitload, and i've always wondered the same, the only argument of any substance i found was a lack of food enzymes whatever the hell they are/do, though personally i don't see how most of us with the amount of food we eat would be lacking in them

you'd have to be consuming it virtually constantly....if i remember right the absorbtion rate of whey (in water) peaks at 40mins and is completely absorbed in 2hrs.

Some slower release proteins are therefore beneficial.

'Cos it's got bugger-all calories - Using lots of it will give you a shedload of protein, but you'll get damn skinny if you're not eating enough 'real food' as well.

I use whey as a supplement, not a source

The only times I use it are:

Pre training
Post training

To add kcals to a meal (I.e. if I can't be bothered to cook eggs, I'll chuck some in my oats or in some yoghurt or cottage cheese)

I really don't feel like eating at all and have some to tie me over until my appetite picks up

That is the main reason for me.

If I have a whey shake, I'm starving an hour later. If I eat a real meal, it stays in me over a 3 hour period until my next meal.

i am coming to a conclusion that all this extra protein intake is just hyped marketing bollocks, so i am trying to get whole foods in me rather than protein supplements.

Protein supplements are all very processed, results of a heavy chemical process. That might not be a problem though, i don't mind too much, but seems like my gains are the same if i take them or not, so i may as well save my money :D
