What kind weight of training is recomended for fighters who wish to increase speed and strength without putting on too much size or weight?

generally keep the load high and a volume low, also use fast movements.

this has been discussed a bit in this thread http://www.iron-city.net/showthread.php?t=460

if you give us more details on your current state we can give you more help.

congrats on your first post!

I agree with Pikey - high load, low volume. Or fairly high load with an explosive lift even.

Do you actually compete then? I train Krav Maga and BJJ but as I don't compete, getting bigger fighting-wise is never a bad thing IMO.

I have got a couple of introductory fights lined up, but not for a couple of months. Im a bit torn between this and muscle wars. I think im going to maintain/increase my current size and mass whilst improving my fitness, then at the last minute rip off the required amount in time for the fight.

Its time for me to change my routine anyway so ill have a proper think about it all then start the obligatory training journal.

Well due to an unknown illness I have lost about 50% of vision in my left eye so prob wont be fighting this season, if ever. I have been thinking about this training routine (now that I have aquired my beloved power rack).

Mon:- boxing (no sparing)
Tues:-5*5
Box Squats
power cleans
Dips
Chins
Decline weighted situps
Wed:-rest
Thurs:-boxing
Fri:-5*5
Deads
Bench
Bent over rows
OHP
Decline weighted situps
Sat:-HIIT/Tabata/maybe some grappling if a wrestler mate is up for it
Sun:(im not sure about set/rep scheme)
1 leg squats
OH squats
1 arm OH barbell press
1 arm knuckle pressups

This is a general practical strength/fighting/all round training routine. Your opinions please.

i think the routine looks pretty sweet, 5x5 on four different exercises in one session may be too much though.

Sorry to hear about eye mate

awww 5*5 was making me feel like the big man, but maybe 3*5 is more sensible. I was a little worried about the impact of 3 wholebody workouts a week anyway plus 2 boxing and cardio. I'll have sort my weights after next monday's workout then finally get a journal underway.

5x5 definately makes u a big man but doing it on 4 exercise is probably a bit much.
