Does anyone else train with this weapon? (Rob?)

Robert
14-10-2004, 12:24
No mate. A friend that trains JKD and Phillipino Si-lat has one (well three actually), i have used it a few times (just freestyle sparring with him) and have a basic grasp of 1 or 2 strikes, but nothing more. I much prefer Jokken's or Bo's. 3 secs are a bit camp ofr my liking. Why do you ask mate, you buying one/training with one?

Stu

Yeah bo's are brilliant, what do you train in rob?

Stu

I got mine a year and a half ago, I was just wondering who else uses them besides me.

Well right now nothing. Have under my belt:

1. 9+ years Jiu Jitsu (Japanese)
2. 6 years Boxing (Queensberry)
3. 4 years Shaolin kung fu (mostly long fist - northern)

Jiu Jitsu i have stopped. Boxing i have stopped. Kung fu is all self taught as there are no academies (decent ones) in my area. So i still study it, mostly from books though, i meet up with mates and we spar form time to time, sometimes to get good form and pattern, other times to workout combos and counters, other times just to fight. It may be weapons based or empty hand. Kind of like a fight club, we video most of it, it makes for entertaining viewing and you can learn from past mistakes.

What about you?

Stu

I'm like you, I don't have a sifu. I've trained in shorinji kempo, wing chun and shaolin kung fu (northern)(this teacher was a good one I was with him for awhile until he decided to move again), theres no decent teachers around my area either now so i'm teaching myself from books and such.

Your own fight club huh....nice, can I join!
No chance of you showing me some of the vid's is there :023:

Wing Chun rules. Not tried Kempo yet. I have lots of books on Shaolin (esp by Wong Kiew Kit - who i am going to see the next time he does a seminar in England hopefully). Any particular forms/patterns your into? The vids are all on video, as in, the tape variety. But another meet is sheduled for soon, so that'll be recorded digitally if you like.

There is a great one (again, unfortunately on video tape) of a friend called Warren roundhouseing two of my teeth out my face! The all time best is me breaking his nose and wrist in the same combo... :023:

I have a book by Wong Kiew Kit (the art of shaolin kung fu) I guess you got this one as its quite popular.

I'm into shaolin drunken boxing and shaolin dragon boxing at the moment along with the 3 section staff which has always been my weapon of choice...so far!

That would be great if you got footage on digital cam, your fights sound rough....just the way I like it baby! :karate:

When it comes to books on Kung fu - This one is hard to beat

The Hong Kong Book of Kung Fu (http://www.dfcom.freeserve.co.uk/hbw/hongkong/book.htm)

I've trained in the arts of Winch Chun, Brazillian Ju-Jitsu (rough judo), Muay Thai, JKD but my main style is Ryukyu-Kempo the deadliest art I have ever studied, check it out; www.dillman.com.

I have also had brief engagements in the useless arts of Taekwondo and American Karate (Aka bullshit)

Has anyone seen the shaolin monks- I went to see them live at London for my 14th birthday... they're bloody amazing! :021:

...we train with broom handles by the way!

Of course mate, The Karate I study is original Okinawan and contains many pressure points. Been to a few seminars with some people very high up in the chain. seen some very impressive stuff.

Look on the website I posted and take a look at a few of the knockout clips. :040:

just a couple of points hit in the right order and 'bang' stone cold! You don't even need to put any power in, lol! It's amazing . One of the first arts I have studied inwhich the instructor has shown us what's hidden in the Kata.

Very Dangerous stuff :046:

Blood sport! When van dam hit's the pile of bricks with his palm and only the bottom one breaks. Dim mak=death touch

Then Bolo (from enter the dragon) say's the quote.

If you havent seen it dont worry, it's crap

It's my own fault for watching a gay-ass van damme film...

Rage

It's actually a good film in my opinion :046: ! I love his collection! (best to watch as a youngster though, as shit story lines).

A few of my fave's include;

AWOL
On the run
Kickboxer
Bloodsport (2,3,4 are crap- but he's not in them!)
I've seen his latest one too but didn't like it much!

Robert

Kun Shu was originally for healing purposes? Then the "science" was transfered to MA and given the name Dim-Mak. Ninja's and lots of obscure Japaneese arts use its principles, like Ryu-Kenshu(sp?) etc etc.

It's probably his best film, but is crap compared to Bruce Lee/sammo/jet li/yuen biao etc

We learn how too heal, before he will teach us to kill/KO !

It's all very closely related to accupuncture btw.

Robert

I know it is. All of eastern medicne is hinged on chi flow and meridians (Dan Tian for example).

Rage
15-10-2004, 12:49
we lable the lines fire, earth, metal, water and wood.

That way it's easy to make a KO combination ie; fire melts metal so that would knock someone out. metal chops wood etc.

Yer...and when you stop the chi flow...bang ! We learn how to start it again too ;)

my favourite is a lung 5

Robert
15-10-2004, 12:53
Yes i know about soeof the basic combos, lung 9 and heart 5 is a good one IIRC.

You cant beat a tan sao and a bil zee to the eyes/neck, simultaneous ofcourse.

I keep meaning to get back to wing chun, I love the theory and art behind the forms and movements.

My wooden dummy is standing there, calling out for me to finish the form.

Tan sau's are for gays, Bong sau's and Jeet tek's are for real men ;)

Sounds like french for Bull shit :043:

Robert

A Jeet-tek is essentially a low kick usually directed at the knee or groin. It is a basic (as in, all beginners learn this) defense in JKD, and given that JKD is shamelessly plagerised from all corners of Wing Chun and Kung Fu, i assumed you would of heard of it.

oddly I aint, my class uses the chinese words for hand block etc but uses english for kicks. Even the gold book, that teaches the dummy form uses english for legs.

I have heard it referd to as an "obilique kick" at some seminars.

Rage
16-10-2004, 18:00
Yes... that's what we call it! foot to the knee/shin/ (foot pointed outwards?).

Also do opposite cutting kick to spleen six
