OK, I got back from Japan a few days ago. Great time was had, although there was a typhoon and I got drenched each night and I've come home with a flu. :(
I trained today (probably shouldn't have) and it was crap. Did 170x1 in the deadlift, then 120x1 in the bench and 110x3 in the Oly. squat. Felt like a weak little girl.
I'll be back to 100% on Monday and ready to give it lot. Be hitting some new 1RMs in a month or so...

Yeah... The squat's not great, but your squat is comparitively weak in general.

It's not like the volume is huge on the pulls and not on the pushes either...does it feel like you're doing enough pulling? (says the guy who only did 3x3 bb row yesterday..<buff> )

you do have horizontal, vertical and supportting back work though(rows, chins and deads)

Just to clarify, GMs are wide stance (same as squat) and stiff legged. The bar is right on my belly button if I stand upright.

Ummm, not sure what to say. Really, really dissapointed. I bombed badly. I did 187.5x6x1 3 weeks ago. No way on Earth would I get my 205 kg 1RM ATM. I do have some pretty bad DOMS in my groin still from squatting, but that's not the problem I don't think.
I think my lower back is getting too much work. I'm going to swap barbell rows for chest-supported t-bar rows so it gets at least one day off.
Oly. squats seem to be going well, but I'm still really gutted. Think I'll have to go back to 180x6x1 next week...
Have you tried chest supported barbell rows with blocks under each end of the bench so you can get a full range of movement with out the stress on the lower back?

No. There are no blocks at my gym anyway.
You still wouldn't be able to get a full ROM, as you can't pull the bar all the way to your body.
Yo, Jo... Considering your squat is 10kg higher than mine, and your deadlift is 15-10kg higher than mine (1RM's), you need to use more than 100x3x3 on your paused squats. Hell, even i used 105kg.
not sure what the problem is with your Deadlifting, maybe you just need a break mate, a de-load week or something. Your not doing masses of volume TBH so i wouldn't of thought it would overtrain your l'back.

Well I've hardly deadlifted in the last 3 weeks, so doubt I need to de-load.
I feel I overtrain very easily, I get very severe DOMS that last for up to a week and I really feel that my lower back was just tired today. I don't think swapping barbell rows for chest-supported rows is going to make much of a difference, just give me a little more rest.

I did floor press instead of DB shoulder press. Not sure why, just felt like it.
Chins were hard again with bad DOMS from deadlifting. I did some barbell curls at the end as well, they were light, so I'm not posting them. LOL.
The most annoying bunch of batty BBers were in there tonight (my gym is usually empty).
They were continualy going up to the mirrors and pulling up their tops to see who had the most "ripped" abs. They were also training like fags.

Crashed and burned on the benches. I added in an extra set at the heavier weight. I stuffed the 107.5x3, lifted it over my eyes and did something funky to my shoulder. The next set was doomed.
Still stuck at 4 on the last set of DB presses. It was sooooo close this time, next week. Shoulder was feeling weird during this too.
T-bar rows are gay. Going back to BB rows, or maybe DB rows.
No Cuban rotations because of the shoulder...
Rubbish workout really.

Good and bad session...
Deadlifts nearly killed me. The first 180 was so hard, I nearly fainted. Then developed a terrible headache. The second and third 180s were worse. I gathered myself, adjusted my technique and pulled the last 3 relatively easily.
I'm just detrained (only had two heavy deadlift sessions in the last 5 weeks). The technique problem was that I was starting the lift with my hips too high. Hopefull that's the end of that now.
Oly. squats felt good, but are getting hard. My lower back was knackered.

Same thing different name since back squats can be wide, narrow, parallel or ATG, whereas olys are always narrow and ATG.

The "back squats" in my routine are powerlifting style - wide stance (almost rack width), IPF depth (fraction below parallel) with a low bar (on rear delts and upper back).
The "Oly. squats" are ATG, shoulder width stance and the bar relatively high up on my traps.

Squats were good. My lower back and hams had a tiny bit of DOMS still, so I wore a belt on the last set. Form was good, but the last rep was hella slow.
GMs were awesome. They look so hard. I scared a little old lady out of the room smashing the weight down on the rack. :046:
I chopped the end of my finger off last night cooking. The DBs for the farmers walk were killing me, so I had to stop them...

I fail a few inches off the chest. Basically where my upper arms are parallel to the ground.
Bench 1RM is 125kg. Done 115kgx3 also.

I can easily make some boards. In the past we've used phone books (tapped together) which seemed to work well. I won't be able to use these for another two weeks though, until I start training with my mate again.

Routine looks perfect as I'm heading out in just over 8 weeks. So I'll start the routine in a week and hopefully hit a new 1RM before I head out.

Had to stop front squats as they were killing my skinny girl wrists. :(
I was doing pulldown abs and a female "trainer" (complete with makeup and done up hair) told me to stop because I would "hurt my back". The reason I would hurt it was because I was "bending over". Hmmm, kind of the point of pulldown abs...
I gave her an angry look and left.

I raised the bench for the bottom position by about 1" because there is no arch, so the bar was off my chest. Made it a bit harder.
The last set of lockouts were a bit dodgy (some of the reps were bounced off the rails).

On a funny note, I had people looking at me like I was an escaped mental patient today.
One of these blokes proceeded to stare me down then do his Smith machine deadlifts with 15kg per side. And with straps. Hehe. :046:
His mate was doing Smith machine squats with 10kg per side with one of those sponge neck protectors. He was wearing pretty gloves.

Deadlifts were awesome. I pulled them all quick and hard. I'm back, or sorts.
Most I've ever front squatted with a clean grip. Last set flew up. Could've done more, but the wrists felt a little funky.
Rack pulls are really strange. I feel so weak doing them. Around knee is my weak point. 140x3 was a mammoth struggle. Am I strange?

i do sumo rack pulls frfom 2inch below and can only use 200kg for 3 when my 1RM is 240kg from the ground

Rack pulls are very difficult to do from below the knee. Unless the bar is about 2" above the knee, I can't pull supramaximlly.

Terrible, terrible session. Hardly ate before the gym. Started cramping in my hams and groin almost immediately. Bombed out in the last set, just missed the second rep when I was going for three.
SLDLs were horrible. The first heavy set I only got one rep before I had the worst cramp I've ever experienced. I just left them alone and streched for 10 minutes.
Then I did some core and calf work.

Hmmm. Today was meant to be my deadlift/Oly. squat day, but I can't train for the next two days (got so many xmas functions on), so I did a bit of everything.

I still have the most terrible DOMS in my hams and groin, so I only pulled a few deads. 190 flew up.
Monday I'm back to normal.
TBH, I can't see me getting all that much proper training in until I leave. Have xmas, NYE and loads of catching up to do before I leave... :(

1. 750ml soy milk, 4 weetabix, 50g whey, peach, nectarine, double espresso
2. 2 massive bowls of chicken risotto (200g of chicken easily)
3. Fish and chips (large piece of fish, scallops, large prawn, 2 calamari rings and loads of chips)
4. Massive serve of calamari and salad
5. 10 McDonalds chicken nuggets and about 10 beers :023:
6. Lamb souvlaki (extra meat and chilli sauce)

I feel like a weak, little girl. I thought I'd try out my fancy new belt for the 170, and it was a total failure. Not sure why, but I can't deadlift with a belt. The 180 nearly killed me. Shouldn't be too suprised I guess, considering I haven't deadlifted in a month and I still have a cold.

I think box squats are fantastic. They hit the muscles that I needed to work on (PC - especially the hips) well and they force you to have proper form (sitting back rather than down).

honestly, i'm the worst when it comes to "smart" training, i always go too far, do too much, mess about and kill my gains. Thats why i think where possible i should stick to these percentage routines where no messing about is allowed.

That's a pretty big difference in what you bench and what you row. Was that an easy rowing session for you?
It's a chest supported t-bar row, so the moment induced by the weight is a lot higher compared to a barbell row.

Last deadlift was crap. Actually stopped above my knees and I had to yoink it up. I’ll probably go for 200 next week anyway then stay at that until I can pull it cleanly.

I prefer bottom position GMs, they allow me to keep a tight arch from the bottom, where I tend to round my back easily with normal GMs.

My left hand is stronger on the RT. Weird.
Deadlifts sucked. Got the 200 to my knees and it died and pulled me forward. Felt crap for a number of reasons:
- usually deadlift on Saturday, but had to do it on a Friday evening
- was in the office an hour later than I wanted to be
- hardly ate anything all afternoon
- I've come down with another bloody cold

The oly squat was awesome, it came up real nice, 308lbs atg with only a belt is a damn fine squat for sure!!!
Cheers. I enjoy Oly. squatting so much more than PL stylee.

Finished with some Vertical Bar Holds, can’t remember what weight.
Terrible session. Didn’t eat enough and felt weak and light headed. Some goose was doing military presses in the cage with 10 minute breaks in between sets, so I did OH Squats. Leg and core strength was fine, but my left shoulder/elbow gave in with the 60kg, probably should’ve used a wider grip.
Is there anything wider than a snatch grip?

Why are you using a belt for snatches/OH squats?
The old core felt a bit weak at the bottom position after deadlifts, so I threw the belt on.

I wanted to do DE box squats today, but some guy was in the power cage doing military presses, so I did deadlifts. My core, lats and biceps were dead sore from yesterdays session, and I just felt crap. He was still in there when I finished deadlifting. He said he still had loads to do, so I did leg presses. My God they suck.
I got annoyed after that and left.
My workouts are all over the shop ATM. I need something more structured. I'm going away for 4 days on Friday, and when I get back I think I'm going to start J5's squat routine.

PR on the squats. Maxed out to work out my percentages for J5’s squat routine which I’ll start next week.
I then had the bright idea of going for a PR with the PL squats too. 150 took about an hour to finish the lift, hips and PC weren’t having any of it.
Thought I’d do some speed pulls. Probably too light in hindsight, the 10th rep was still very quick, I had to stop as I was about to rip a callous off my left hand (d/o grip throughout of course).
Full contact twists are pretty cool, I just did them very light, but I certainly felt them.
Well done on the PR's mate, your CS oly squat PR and WS PL squat PR's are quite close...much closer than mine would be.
I think I'm good for 160+ in the PL squat if I was fresh.
