What do you have?
What else would you like?
I'm planning on getting kitted up to train at home.
I'll need to buy a rack, bench & bar.
I've already got the following
Thick Bar
Thick DBs
Oly DBs
Rolling Thunder
Wrist Roller
Mini bands, super minis, light bands, medium bands
Dura Balls
Indo Board
Foam Rollers
Knowing my penchant for wierd exercises is there anything else I need?
Oh and buying a GHR or Rev Hyper is out of the question at the moment :013:

Rubber matting/flooring is a good idea, as is a weight tree

pike, don't hold your plans as secret mate, i'm one of these saddos who have been thinking of a home gym for ages, lol! Would be good to see what you plan to get mate.
Currently planning to get a power cage, a thick bar, an oly bar, a pile of chains and an even bigger pile of weights...
PK - What do you use the bands for?

PK - What do you use the bands for?
all kinds of stuff
the typical band bench, squat, dl type stuff, pull throughs, rows, pulldowns, core work, stretching, adding them to pretty much any DB or BB exercise
I've got a powerrack, a crap bench, oly bar and weights, thinner bar, dumbbells and weights. I can do dips by putting both bars across the safety struts on the cage. Really want a better bench, going to need some more weight soon, would like a weights tree and punch bag and bracket as I'm making do with pads strapped to my powerrack atm. Training at home rules.

I've got a rack, 7' standard bar, old york bench with the uprights cut off lol.
A decent rower for cardio but i'd prefer to go out for a bike ride when the summer gets here eventually.
Keeping an aya out for some scaffold poles to place across the rack and use as dipping bars. I have a dipping belt too.
Phil
In my arsenal Ive got a home built squat rack, standard bar with weights, dbs, a pulldown machine and a pair of benches. Will need to get a new bench soon as both of them are ripped and have nasty suprises on the edges. Still, adds character.
The hardest thing about training at home is finding something to do a decent set of calf raises on.

I have my home made power rack which you've all seen, oly bar/plates and a bench, i would like:
thick bar
dipping bars
thick db's
ghr bench
the 1st three i just need to get round to making, the ghr bench would never fit
If I trained at home I wouldn't bother with a bench. Floor press rules.
One of these days I am going to dig a ****ing big pit in my garden and squat in that.
thick bar (dumbell + barbell)
some weight (enough to go up to 175kg on bar)
crap bench
squat stands
spotter stands
i want:
an oly bar + weight set
decent bench
power rack
probably wont happen, im only here for 6 more months so i cant justify paying out for it

I've been thinking the same, the bench I have at home is an old DP argos one with the uprights cut off. It only gets used for benching and is uncomfortable.
When I reach last years bench + 10% I'm switching to dips in the rack and if I enjoy them I may ditch the bench altogether to save some space.

How much do you think: a squat rack, a power rack, a bench, a barbell and 200kg of weights would cost to buy at a decent price?
In the long run training at home makes a lot of financial sense.
why would you want a squat rack AND a power rack?
why would you want a squat rack AND a power rack?
dont think he knows the difference :043:
Power rack - 350+
Flat bench - 100+
Adjustable bench 130+
Weights £1 a kilo (including cheapo bar that'll do you for now)
why would you want a squat rack AND a power rack? I'm afraid Fred is right. Although I now realise that there is a difference.
I'm having a stupid day today please forgive my ignorance :iamwithst .
Power rack - 350+
Flat bench - 100+
Adjustable bench 130+
Weights £1 a kilo (including cheapo bar that'll do you for now) That works out at about £650. Not bad - that is the same price as two years membership at my current gym.

That £200 rack is pretty good, went for the body solid pro power rack about £320 iir, very nice too, £800 will get anyone who wants to just train with good old fassioned no machinmes the kitthey need and enough plates to keep them going, flooring is exspensive though for propper gym mats, you may need this depending on where they are going.
Can we please keep threads free from name calling posts as 5 on this page are pointless, if it continues i will edit the posts so that they read "My name is (insert offenders name here) I like putting my fingers in my bunghole!" and then lock the post :)
Please remember we are trying to be taken seriously as a training discussion board and not just a few mates all calling each other names, Keep it to pm eh!
sorry for going off topic
My gym membership runs out in early April. I have been saving up and I'm very interested in training at home.
Plates: £119 http://www.ixlbarbell.co.uk/olympic_sets.htm
Power Rack: £199 http://gymratz.co.uk/weight-training-gym-equipment/item103.htm
Flat Bench: £105 http://gymratz.co.uk/weight-training-gym-equipment/item122.htm
All prices do not include delivery. Is delivery gonna be expensive? Can anyone recommend me better value for money items?
I only need the three things above for current workouts.
I can't wait to start training at home. Beer drinking, wanking between sets and all the other benefits you guys enjoy :023: :045:
Those are without doubt the cheapest places, but www.fitness-superstore.co.uk do free delivery on the same stuff so check out how much it will cost you first
Those are without doubt the cheapest places, but www.fitness-superstore.co.uk do free delivery on the same stuff so check out how much it will cost you first I will do it later, I'm just very tired now after a hard squat session (can't be arsed to update the journal yet, I'll probably just update it once this week).
I have also been bumping "Ballin" by Snoop Dogg repeatedly and it always relaxes me into a blissful state.
I am also interested in being able to have some sort of pulldown attachment for the rack so that I can do some heavy ass ab pulldowns. I need more CORE STRENGTH
I have just realised the max weight I would be able to lift with the plates and bar I suggested would be 137.5kg. A year from now I'll be working with even newer plates :045:

I bought that set with an extra 4x20 plates and now I need more! :D
Actually if I was a nice guy and liked you I could pick up your set too. Shame.

I'm not getting anything until I next have to go to coventry in may, so I'll see nearer the time.
Rayza, I bought that powerrack from gymratz along with a 145kg oly set and delivery was about £30 or so.
There has been a change of plan. I spoke to my parents about the home gym thing, and they said that they would prefer me to do another 5 months (until end of September) at my current gym. After that I will go to Uni, where I can get access to all sports facilities for £70. Then in the holidays if I still have my heart set on home training I can set it up in the garage.
Sounds like an OK plan. I don't hate training at my gym, it's quite pleasant, I just feel training at home would be even better and it would defo be cheaper in the long term.
It also means I won't have to go into my savings, I'll just be saving like a mofo.
Its not all bad mate. You dont have the atmosphere at home like you do at the gym.
Plus all the people watching you can let you push just that little bit harder!
Plus all the people watching you can let you push just that little bit harder! Cos I'm fairly self conscious it works the opposite for me, I think I'd be lifting a bit better at home. I wold also be less tempted to use a small amount of ego to lift the weight.
I have recently learnt to nearly make my ego void when lifting, I'm a very small offender compared to other gym members, but I have to perfect my form. My benching was ridiculously good yesterday, I'll speak about that more later this week. I can sense the growing anticipation in the forum :drummer:

Unless you're buying an absolute shedload of weights then they're even cheaper than IXL.
:035:
Checked fitness superstore they are £359 for the pro-power rack. Ill see if either will throw in the dipping rails for free. Gym ratz don't charge for UK delivery anymore either.
