View Full Version : The Special Offer Thread.
We all need to eat lots (except freddy), and that can be expensive. So I propose we create a thread with the best special offers that are on the supermarkets at the moment.
For example: This week at Sainsburies you can buy 4 fishcakes (salmon, tuna, cod, haddock) for £2. Buy one get one free. Each fish cake has 10g of protien and not too much in the way of fat.
I just ate 8 of them. 80g protien. 900kcals. 10mins in the oven. £4. Rock on.
For £4 you could get 8 cans of tuna at 25g protein per 100g thats 140g total weight each can so that is 280g of protein for he same price as you got 80 :)
I knew there would be a ****ing smart arse. You don't get any carbs in your tuna tins; douche bag, and you can't eat it as it is. Also, you can't assimilate 280g of protien in one sitting. OWNED.

Nice meal rob, Im in the samwe boat as you id rather enjoy what i eat and not just oh thats good for me but tastes shit.
Why can't you eat tuna from the tin?
Or are you too much of a metro a2a
Can it. Fatty.
*get it, can it, tuna, get it?*
im not fat :(
anyway
sainsburys 140g chopped chinese flavour chicken breast, 2 for £3
nice in a wholemeal pitta bread :049:
Well if you split the 240 into 80s thats 3, so you get 3 servings of tuna at at least 80g protein for £4 add a bit of rice for carbs douch bag, whilst if you did the same for your meal that would be £12 for 3 meals and 240 protein.
:D :D
Right, who let Mr. ****ing Einstien in?

(packets of 4, not 3/4 of a packet for a ridiculous price)
Morrisons have a kilo of (skinned) chicken breasts for a 5'er.....
Not ground breaking but there are 5 in a pack, so 200g each, so about 50g per tit. Not 3 bad. :038:

No point buying rancid fish oil, that's why I'm waiting for the above...
What gives you the idea it might be rancid, anymore than the cheap stuff from ZipVit etc. ?
Also, if you needed some when cruffle first put the offer up, what are you using instead ?
HardcoreSportsTraining
02-07-2007, 13:58
I'm not saying the zipvit stuff isn't ;)
I currently have 'Tesco Omega-3 fish oil'

Have you cut one of those open ?

Yep - fine
Ok, so at what point did you decide the H & B stuff might be a pile of shit and decide to buy the tesco ones ?
HardcoreSportsTraining
02-07-2007, 14:08
When I realised 'you get what you pay for' wasn't just a nice sounding phrase!
People posting on the 'cheapest whey' thread beware ;)
And the tesco brand is how much, for how many of what mg ?
HardcoreSportsTraining
02-07-2007, 14:12
I think it was 15 quid, maybe 18, 180 x 1000mg.
Well, I've used the All-In-1 and ZipVit stuff and not noticed a difference, granted I haven't cut one open tho'.
The H&B ones I have are at home at the moment so will have to wait and see.
I'd be interested to see your results too Neil.
Test Results :
ZipVit 1000mg Fish Oil tabs - No Odour discernible
H&B 1000mg Fish Oil Tabs - Slightly different odour to the ZipVit but definately not rancid fish.

Always good to be sure - of course it should smell like fish/salmon at very close proximity, but more fish market than rotting fish!

Well, thats the thing, the zipvit didn't really smell of anything, very faint if there at all, unless my sense of smell is fecked...
The H&B ones did smell ever so slightly fishy.
Definately no rotting fish smell in either.

Negligable, its all a bot of scare mongering this one if you ask me. Most reckon than the amount of mercury present is so small as to have almost no effect compared to all the benefits of taking fish oil. Plus if your that worried MP Fish Oil (http://www.myprotein.co.uk/capsules-tablets-softgels/omega-3-and-fish-oils/omega-3-x-250-softgels/) is guarenteed to be less than 1ppm of heavy metals. MP also stated on their forum that there are only a few fish oil cap manufactires in the UK anyway (much like jaffa cakes) so it doesn't matter whether their coming from H&B, Tesco, Zipvit, MP - its probably all the same stuff.

Fish oil is generally fine, cod liver oil not so much.
i cut a H&B fish oil tab open and it smelled like oily fish.
i might take it back and complain.

That's fine - as long as it's not 'off' smelling, although it should be a quite hard to detect smell, not an obvious one. Basically if you can't smell fish until you get quite close, you're on a winner.

You knows it :023:
Linusit? £4 odd for 500g? I'm sure I put you lot onto this when I did the v-diet earlier this year....
I buy Linusit Organic cold milled flax from Tesco's. So its already done for me, it looks like a very coarse powder, well not even a powder more like breadcrumbs. There are probably cheaper alternatives out there - its £4.50 odd for 500g, but its good quality and convenient to pick up from there. You have to store it in the fridge after opening to save it going off.
So you did :038:
Couldn't remember reading it tho'...
yeah thats ok, but it is TEN TIMES more expensive than just buying your own seeds and putting them int blender

NOW Foods on sale at Myprotein as they are reducing the range they carry, i believe these will be replaced soon by Myprotein branded replacements.
myprotein can kiss my arse before i buy anything from them again. ALL-IN-1 are now cheaper, offer next day delivery and their customer service is in a league of its own. Add to the fact that you're basically getting reflex quality products and I fail to see why anyone would shop at my protein.

WORD. Make that 4 for £50 (unflavoured) or 4 for £87.50 flavoured.
You can get 4 tubs of unflavoured from All in One for £50 + delivery
4 Tubs of flavoured is £88 + delivery.
Discount supps is branded flavoured stuff which is a good saving on the RRP, but in comparison to the unflavoured it's not too cheap.
I use DS regularly using the "Define" protein which isn't too great to mix, but tastes fine.

Myprotein decent offer until end of tomorrow. 20% off True Whey if you buy two tubs, plus, if you spend over £55, you get 1kg of flavoured whey isolate for free. I bought the two tubs of whey and spend a couple of quid on some biltong and a protein bar to get over the £55 limit, so got the free protein as well, so they were happy to honour both offers. Plus delivery is free. Can't say fairer than that really.

I'm going to put them in my post workout shakes. I'm sure they will help with recovery, especially once I come off.
