What does the continental bit mean in that, seen the term a couple of times but not sure what it refers to.
It's where you bull the bar to your belly, then kinda flick it up into the racked position, as opposed to cleaning it it one movement.
It's where you bull the bar to your belly, then kinda flick it up into the racked position, as opposed to cleaning it it one movement.
Cheers Tim.
Right, seen that done on some of the strongman stuff i've watched on telly.
' bull the bar ' is a cool term.
Lol, why the **** did I write that, b is not even remotely close to p...
how can you moan at me for cleaning mg at 100 when you do it at 110, ten kilos is a peanut, anus.
Big ****ing peanut, Gibbon.
Cheers. RE depth and form, same as always, if you've ever seen any of my sq vids, like that.
Next microcycle will be (unless I change my mind in the next few days) 4x3, starting at 145 and progressing as seems reasonable from there, until I don't think I will be able to add another 2.5kg in a week, at which point I shall consider other options. Plus one light set of front squats to finish in the 8-10 rep range.
My theory on sq's these days is plain and simple. Pick a rep range, start on something reaosnably comfy, add 5k a week for as long as you can, then 2.5.... when you think if you add another 2.5 you will miss reps, choose a new rep range and start again.
Avoid super long cycles of < 3 reps, test RM's between cycles if you wish, do more than 20 reps per session, sorted.Aye thats pretty much my thoughts as well though i'm not 100% sure you always need to do at least 20 reps, i quite like 1 volume day and one day working up to 3rm or something though i guess that isn't an option with your strongman stuff as well

Tyre flips are cool. I've only done to once with PK about 2 years ago, the Manager of our gym insisted we got rid of the tyres as they were too dirty and not inkeeping with our gym ha ha!!!!
whats the VP feel like compared to a regular PP then? Does the fact your pushing against the support arm make it easier, or is it pretty much the same!?
Narc,
that jesse maurande video is awesome, but i was amazed at the section 5.45mins in where he was repping the 305lbs stone after each lift he dropped the stone down and caught it as it bounced up ~ nuts!!!!!
Viking is easier than a PP, although our viking is pretty wobbly. Remember that's not the weight in the hands either. The apparatus weight is 30kg in the hands, plus 100kg of plate weight which is loaded slightly behind the handles. I would say that was about 110-115kg in the hands.
Aye that stone bit is awesome!
all his stone vids are awsome! get on his site and download ALL his vids, theres one where he shoulders it, puts in down, shoulders it, puts it down, repeat x ludacris volume!

I'd love to mate, but I don't really have anywhere I can properly train the O lifts. Re the platform etc, go for it man, especially if there's coaching available in your area, a bit of extra speed can only help your strongman stuff.

Aye. Didn't want to do any OH work as I was doing some today, was struggling to find a reason to go the gym, so did that instead..

Went up to train at the Whey Consortium HQ in Gloucester today, got stuck in traffic for ****ing ages, then very lost. Turned up to see Loz deadlifting an easy 300 for 3, nice.
Quite a few lads turned up for the day, good to see some old faces and meet some new, got in a good session and saw some impressive lifting from others, Shawn pressing a 160kg (+frame) viking and coming within a gnat's bollock of lapping a 251kg stone in particular, not to mention Mike strict pressing a 125kg axle for 2 reps at 105kg bodyweight!
High platform was fun, cleverly protected my body from getting hurt by catching the stone on my face a couple times. Bit annoyed at not getting the 140, came close, but was a bit knackered by the end.

i win.
20 reps of one, then straight onto 20 reps of the other, then straight back to the former, and so on and so on until you've done 100 of each exercise. Nothing that horrendously painful could possibly be gay, lol.
That 100 rep challenge is ****ing brilliant. Gave me some horrendous stretch marks on my arms tho!!

Push Press - 100x4x4
Lateral Raises
Face Pulls
Low Pulley External Rotations
Dear God, lateral raises! My elbows were ****ed from the push presses, had to do something where I wouldn't need to bend them. Not done lat raises since I started training, wow, what an utterly useless ****ing exercise, lol.
In other news, weighed 220.08lbs in clothes in the gym after training, obviously not really a perfect representation of what I generally weigh day to day, but still, 100kg! Deal with that mother****ers!
swole as **** mate!!!1
nice PPs too
Awesome, the fatness is now official!

No, you do fags, right?
Nice PP's, Tim.
Why do you feel Lateral raises were a waist of time? You not feel them in the intended area?
Real nice PPs dude, out of interest, how similiar is your start position etc to a jerk? mine got more and more similar over time.

Cheers mate! Lots of reasons, the complete lack of weight, the pointlessness of the movement, the tiny amount of muscle recruited, the general feeling that they were doing **** all for me.
Quality pp u tosser :038:

In what respect? hand/elbow position presumably? Hard to say as I've only really jerked two or three times and I definitely did not have ideal hand/elbow position then.

I knew you'd say 'the lack of weight' lol. Surely you knew all this before you started doing them though. I think they're ok for a pump, and if you think your medial delts are behind your anteriors in devolpment.
Lol, I did know this, but I was at a loss for things to do. Some light exercises still seem useful though, these really really didn't.

Ahhh so you have. You've been focusing on strongman stuff, which really doesn't involve much horizontal pressing.
You must have sore pecs then...

DL - 170x3x6
Snatch Grip BB Shrugs - 100x3x10
Back Extensions
Light and easy tonight obviously, still undecided about how quuck to ramp the weight up, I would really like to hit 200x3x6 by the end of the year though.
Tried the whole touch the floor and go thing on deads for the first time, as opposed to starting every rep from a dead stop, interesting. Can see some costs and benefits really, certainly easier like that though...
i think you could do that now. so you could def do it by the end of the year! thought that was a 100 snatch at first, lol.
Definitely couldn't do it now. Probably not a million miles off touch and go style I guess, but I'd like to do it from a dead stop.
why do you prefer touch and go out of interest, I can't see the benefits?
you know what, I was actually thinking about trying t+g deads the other day but I was just too scared to try that shit when it came to it.
Wouldn't say I prefer it, just that it's easier, as you'd expect really, myostatic stretch reflex.
Most of the benefits I can see are pretty much specific to me;
I lower the bar slower, obviously this is only a benefit if you're after a bit more TUL, strain, and the resultant hypertrophy, I am.
I lower the bar in a better groove. Normally I would just break the hips and let it drop pretty much stiff legged, then reset my position for the next rep. This way I'm lowering it in the groove I want to pull it, which is good because I always have to really work on pulling properly and anything that forces me to do so has to be a benefit. The more I do it, the more I will do iot, if you follow.
Lower back death, I basically spend the whole time with my low back under tension and focusing my concentration on keeping the ****er in lordosis, good in lots of ways.
I can, or will when it gets heavy, be able to use slightly more weight.
Obviously as I said I see costs too;
Strength of the floor, won't be training it very well...
..which brings me to; specificity. It's not training me to do what I specifically have to do in comp conditions. Normarily have to pull a DL for reps in a comp from a dead stop each time. Suffice to say you can't rely on stretch reflex to pull a 1RM either.
The bump off the floor's a bit nasty.
Lower back death, has it's downsides.
you know what, I was actually thinking about trying t+g deads the other day but I was just too scared to try that shit when it came to it.
Yeah, I had been thinking about it for a while, but likewise didn't fancy it much. Pulling light atm though so figured I'd have a shot. Wasn't as bad as I expected, good even. There is a slight moment when you go from the eccentric, which is obviously a good deal stronger, to the concentric, and suddenly it's a shit sight harder to keep your back straight. Catches you out if you're not ready for it.
I've been doing them like this for a couple of months and I love it, think it's awesome. Probably couldn't pull a single for all that much more than I could do 5 of though, stretch reflex and all that, but abs, obliques and erectors are beefing up from all that time under tension, which is ideal for me.
Yeah, I'm thinking I could really use the hypertrophy too, so I'll probably stick at it like this for a while, or possibly pull two sets like that and one from a dead stop.

Incline Bench - 60x16
Pushdowns/Curls - 100 rep challenge
Coughed up a bit of puke today. Felt very whitey during/after the squats. Had to train early, I'm blaming that. Used one of the nasty thick, sharp, bastard to grip bars for the statics, hence the slightly shit performance.
lol at the 'bigger boys made me do it'.I detect the hand of Andy in that quote...seems like he given you his man flu too with the illness.
Bigger boys did make me do it though, my gay haired training partner soon to be starting a journal of his own to be precise!
Did some cardio today; clothes shopping. God I hate this shit, trapsing around bumping shoulders with the hoi polloi trying to find somewhere that actually stocks something which will fit you. Given up completely on Primark now, tried 4 different trousers with waist sizes of 36-40 and none of them would go round my legs. H&M barely have anything over a 34 at best and all thier XL tops are ****ing skin tight. The entirety of Exeter High Street appears only to cater for size zero metrosexuals. And for ****s sake get some air conditioning going in these shops, I nearly fainted from the exertion of carting my fat ass around, sweat pouring from my forehead generally looking like a pervert whenever I drifted too close to the women's sections. My kegs are now pretty much vacuum sealed over my asshole.

haha i remember when i had a similar experience in london
Well I know that Primarks XL sizes arent.Maybe a large in other shops but they are not an XL when you compare them to everyone elses. And I know their shorts came up distinctly small compared to everyone elses too.Shame because I used to like some of their stuff, cheap throw away gear.
i know this is skimming the bottom of the barrel but peakocks aint too bad anymore, very very cheap and the sizes are pretty good too. not sure about trouser wise but top half is ok. xxl seems bang on. just enough baggy on the gut and perfect round the shoulders and chest and guns.
Trouser and shorts shopping is the bane of my ****ing life. Actually got my current jeans from Next and I can get my legs AND arse in them - at the same time! Pretty surprised as I thought it'd be a metros-only type place.
seriously, they've gone all 'were gona sell cool looking clothes' on the world, and prices are rediculous. i got 5 t-shirts with cool designs on them for 10 bucks.
I can just imagine your idea of a 'cool design' Mr Sloth...
I thought they just sold "Bermuda" shorts and those market jobber t-shirts with the illiminous print and shell suits left over from the early 90's?
Yup, pretty much describing Sloth's dress style there.
To be fair have to agree with pkpit it is alright peacocks - very hit and miss but you can at times get decent stuff pretty cheap.
Next is crap now, jeans are only good thing but trying to charge £20-£30 for shitty t-shirts is just wrong.
I am now struggling with stupid different sizes every shop has - got t-shirt from h & m when i got home and tried it on looked like it was crop top that was sprayed on much to amusement of my g/f and i don't know what hell is going on at primark with their sizes they must think the uk is ethiopia or something nothing fits
I don't know how anyone can go shopping. Personally I don't do it, bar a few visits to the local shop for bits and peices.
I gladly pay £6+ for delivery of grocieries from Tesco instead of mingling amongst the herd in Asda.
Same goes for clothes. Click a button on Ebay, go through a bit of trial and error for size, but you don't have to piss around in the high street...
I hate shopping.
M&S do some good clothes though....

same as mate, except i find my visits to sainsburys and tescos quite therapeutic. i don't go anywhere else and i'll get someone else to buy my clothes :)
Today's diet;
10:00
Litre of milk, banana, honey, oats + half a litre of OJ
12:45
Giant choc chip muffin, milk
4:00
Doritos + salsa dip, milk
7:00
Fish and chips, coke
Probably have an apple, milk and some crisps later. Do you think I'm getting enough selenium?
Aren't you hungry? Not much actual food in there until just now!
Nope, that's always been my problem, getting enough cals with my shitty appetite. I'd say that's somewhere in the region of 4-4500, without having to stuff my face.
How many pints of milk you drink in a day?
I am drinking quite a bit of milk lately too, **** it been bad for you it's loooovely
Looks like around 3000 to me, though that would depend on quantity of milk and choice of muffin....
I'm a connoisseur of all; milk, muffin, poultry and potato.
Can't beat a Mars Muffin.
I had a load of mini muffins for breakfast after being woken by a helicopter. :023: Great North Run Business..

Blender job is 1000, Doritos meal was about 1000, figuring the fish and chips at around 1000, mufffin says it is 500 cals, milk is a litre. Mars muffins? Awesome!
I had a jaffa cake one recently
Just been to the shop too and didn't even think about picking up a muff.
Some old woman with mental hair was starng at me as I tackled the auto close fridge door as I pulled an eight pack of Carling out with little success, so I paid and got the hell out of there....
That's a muff I do not want.
Carling and Vodka Explodes will suffice...

thats is a nice PP too :023:, think i should start doing them again and stop with the jerks, or alternate each week.
I gave up on push jerks because I was just too damn dangerous on them. Seems to be very few strongmen that can pull them off with an axle or log, if you can more power to you though. What is truly sick however, and deviating from the point somewhat, is that Koklayev, who has a world class 240kg clean and jerk, can push jerk a 195kg axle, and then Big Z can come along with zero technique and strict press 200kg!
hehe, i ****ing love it, pure animalistic power.
