--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, I'm 15 years old, my name is Keenan, I've recently started PLing (6 months ago), and decided I need a journal.
I am pretty weak right now, but am happy whenever I hit a PL, so who the hell cares (until competition time).
I have a competition coming up on March 5th. It is just a small one in my gym, but I figure if I do bad on this one, atleast I'll get some experience if I compete later in my lifting career (and we all get free pizza after).
So, I've decided to make a journal to track my progress, and to see if I can get any comments.

If you're a weakling then I must be feeble. How tall and heavy are you? Swap the crappy french press and pullover for JM press and DB press to work your triceps and pecs. You seem to be switching the exercises around alot.
Those weights in Kgs? Man, you are v. strong for 15.

No, they're in pounds.
Phew! Thought this guy was a freak for a sec...
Nice to see you still rocking the free world mate!
Humph
Your on FI aren't you?
Also formerly of MT fame...
Cricket - What's this rep/set expression format you're using? i.e. What does 5/205/5 mean?

I'm about 5'10", and 200lbs of pure fat :002:. What is JM Press? Also, I do DB press sometimes.
Yes I do switch exercises around alot, but I always keep the main movements the same (I don't usually switch as much as I have been, just been hecktick with exams, sometimes I need to blow off steam with more work, sometimes I need to study so do less work).

I wish those were in kg! :021:

Lol, thanks man. I think the "lay-off" from MT is a good thing, cause when I return, I'll be that much stronger, and have that much more stupid stuff to post.

Yes, I am on a ton of boards, some I don't even visit any more. I think my favs are MT, the PLing section of bbing.com, this one, and FI (FI has way more experienced PLers than any other site I've been to).
Sets and reps are sets/weight/reps
Squat results are coming later (when I can get a ride to gym)

Alright, here it is.
Jan 28/05
Squat 3/215/3
Box Squat 3/145/3
***NOTE*** Lower weight on squat, back was bending too much.
TBH Cant see the point in you basicly back squatting that much. Why not 5x5 for box squats then a lower back/hamstring movement like SLDL'S or good mornings?
Feel free to criticise as I am shitfaced after celebrating finishing my exams at uni.

Dunno why, but it's been working. Started it without knowing not to do both, and haven't stopped since (works well for me).
P.S. Congrats on exams, I got mine on Monday and Tuesday :011:

JM press is like a cross between a close grip bench press and a skull crusher. Close grip bench the bar in a vertical line from your throat. The Westside boys use it for their triceps.

Well if it's been working then stick with it. I had a go at Back Squats today as ive started a new 4x6 regime just to change things up a little. i have to say they rock!

Woo! Bench day is done, and I lifted like a mother. :miss: (lol, I love these emoticons :043:)
Bench 2/145/3, 1/150/3
Pullover 5/55/5
Pullover's? Stop being a tart and get dipping. :097: :023:

Lol, I've always been a bit partial to pullovers (they are fun :048: ). Also, dipping with any real range of motion feels wierd on my shoulders.

I tried a belt for the first time today, and wow! I'm gonna buy one for myself (just borrowed some guys who told me to try it).
Squat 3/195/5, 1/215/5, 1/215/3
Box Squat 3/145/5

Feb 8/05
Deadlift 3/275/3 (275 was my old pr :041: )
DB Row 5/70/5 (new pr :048: )
T-Bar Row 5/95/5
Young Jedi if strength and mass is what you seek then pullovers you must drop.
I would ignore belts and concentrate on bulding a strong lower back rather than relying on a belt.

Thanks Humph. I know, I am just experimenting with the belt, as I just got it.
Well, bench day is over, and I repped the weight I hit when I maxed out last time, but I'm not happy. Seems I'm gonna have to step it up a notch if I wanna hit 170 for my comp in March.
Also, I'm gonna try and set up a new routine and diet, as I am slowing gains, and either not eating enough, or eating too much at one time, and being too full for next meal.
Bench 2/150/3, 1/155/2
Pullover 1/60/3, 1/60/4, 2/60/5, 1/60/3
Fair play mate but Powerlifters do not do pullovers so if you want to do well in your comp I would seriously think about getting rid.

U wanna powerlift, shouldnt you be going for triples, singles may be a bit too much right now seeing you're quite young, Joe de Franco's Westside for Skinny Bastards is a good start. Or have you seen shK on muscletalks routine his routine is pretty good.

Woo HOO! I am so happy with this workout, I got my squat form near perfect (wasn't pushing chest up far enough), and finally figured out how to do SLDLs thanks to the good people of this site (thank you ).
Squat 1/185/5, 1/185/4 (lmao, shorts ripped on this set, had to stop, luckily I carry a spare for occasinos like this), 2/185/5, 1/185/4 (just couldn't make last one)
SLDL 4/135/8
Calf Raise 3/400/8 (pays to be a fat guy all your life)
no way!
Why not Alex? I'd rather focus on the deadlifts when I was most energetic, and then do the powercleans and the weight would feel lighter after holding the weight used for deadlifts.

I'm now going to modify my squat day a bit, as I don't have much DOMS in my quads and calves, which I almost always did on my last routine. So, I'm adding 3x8 box squats, and 1 more set of calf raises, to see how that goes.
Wow, haven't posted here for a while :017:
Yeah, not for a good 23 hours!

Any particular reason for doing the French press? There are better tricep exercises out there for developing strength.

I know, but I feel this type of thing is good for the ego. Not pumping it up, but putting it down. When I take an E-Z-Curl bar, and "stack" it with a ten and a 5 on each side (bar weighs 5), it really helps me keep the ego down, so when I go to squats/deadlifts, I do them with good form/managable weight.
Besides, I've read alot of good stuff about them.
Thanks for tip though.
P.S. I like this little mexican stonner emoticon :028:
