Hi folks,
Not entirely sure how but I've done myself a nasty in the neck area.
Woke up Tuesday morning unable to move my head left, right or up without some pretty severe pain (down is fine)
The pain is about where the cervical spine becomes thoracic according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertebral_column.
Pain free ROM is currently about 30 degrees left, 45 right and 45 up.
I took a whack to the head on Saturday in hurling training but I was wearing a helmet and felt no ill effects at all until Tuesday morning - so I very much doubt that this was the cause.
Probably just slept funny on it but tried rest / heat / massage etc yesterday and this morning it felt even worse. Took the day off yesterday but can't really spare the time so in work today staring at a PC screen which I doubt is helping...
Anyone got any tips for
a) immediate pain relief (other than "find a comfy position and stay in it")
b) how to fix it (e.g. particular stretches I could / should do)
c) definitely "do"
d) definitely "don't"
Trying to sort it myself if possible, I know a good sports massage therapist I can go to but don't fancy shelling out £100 for a neck rub (and not even a happy ending). Proper physio would be probably double that... If I can "self-cure" then that's preferred.
Anyone with experience or tips (other than the obvious "Tren") please feel free to wade in...

Have twinged something very similar 3 times (including now), sleeping without any pillows seems to help the most.
Deca.
Hmmm, suck. When i've had injuries with my neck, it has litterally stopped me from functioning as a normal human-being. All i've ever done is not move and had some hot baths to releave pain. I have to say though, since I have gotten a bit fatter, my neck hasnt been as prone to injury.
Get your swole on.

Nice tag....anyway, this is one of things that ****ed me up for my comp, and it lasted over a week in the end (but getting slightly better every day)
Massage did nothing, ice did a little, ibuprofen did a little....the most immediate result came from traction + rotation (into discomfort but not pain)
An oestopath would be able to sort it nearly instantly.

Cheers guys.
Plateau - was considering a new pillow but will go with no pillow for a day or two and see how that helps.
Alex - tried a bit of heat/ice treatment last night and had some immediate benefit but then back to square one this morning. I was worried that I'd be looking at an osteo visit, over here I can see that being an expensive solution (albeit probably the only one that will actually work and could probably get an appointment today if I wanted)
Crystal - hadn't thought of Deca! Spot on, cheers buddy :D And yeah, basically I can do nothing that involves moving my head or shoulders. Crossing the road is a lot of fun, as is trying to make a cup of tea. Perhaps that "high functioning spastic" tag needs to be moved out of your journal.... haha
You can still get brain shake and neck problems if you take a knock to the head. A helmet only protects the skull. Your brain, spinal cord / neck still jolts from the impact.
Delayed neck soreness is a side of minor (and serious) concussion.
Something to consider.

Haha, awesome tags! Yeah had considered some delayed effects Webby, but figured I would have noticed at least something at the time / Sunday / Monday - all was fine up til Tuesday morning.
Tried the no pillow thing last night and all it's achieved is that my neck is still f**ked and I got no sleep, haha.
Gonna suck it up today and find an osteo / chiro in the local area...
p.s. you all forget the classic tags "cheap northern bastard", "blue dick" (tight fisted w**ker) etc etc....

Neck is still wrecked from this. Been to the docs today, they took a couple of x-rays and found no serious damage although I have been diagnosed with a "streckhaltung" - near as I can figure this means loss of curvature in the cervical region.
Been given a letter to go for physio and told no sport for 4 weeks (?) and been given anti-rheumatic painkillers which, appropriately enough, are called "Retard".
I'll not moan about the cost of the treatment as
1) The doctor has an x-ray machine in their office so no referrals or messing about
2) The health insurance is going to cover it all, and up to 9 physio appointments (subject to about £350 excess)
So all in all it could be much worse I guess.

Mine now is much worse after my 18 stone "friend" jumped on me on a pub crawl... Think the fat **** gave me whip lash!

A) Sorry to hear you're still in pain.
B) Good news re: physio etc.
C) Any chance you could post a photo of the packaging? I can think of many uses for a picture of 'retard pills' but am too lazy to go searching the net for them.

Can't be just me that'd be straight to sloth's journal with that!

Tim's works, maybe because I visited it directly before (when it was a red x)

Cheers Alex, JB. I only got red x's for the first two as well; probably due to the security filters at work.

I think mine score bonus points for being retard pills made by Dross-a Pharm

Found a physio near my place - http://www.physiowiedikon.ch/
Only one English speaking physio there - http://www.physiowiedikon.ch/Eliane-Gruber.57.0.html
Giggedy (?)
Shame she probably costs more than a high-class call-girl, without the happy ending. I'd stick with your dross retard pills.

No happy ending, but about 10% of the cost (according to google), all of which is paid for by my insurance.
Sweeeeeeeeeeet.
