Recently, I've been doing dumbbell floor presses rather than bench presses as part of my routine (mainly because I've been too lazy to move all the crap off my bench) and I was wondering which of the 2 exercises you folks think has the best carryover for BJJ/Judo? Looking at the techniques I use from the bottom postion in grappling, I get the feeling the floor press is more sports specific. So is there any benefit for me to be doing bench presses rather than floor presses?

I think a full rom press will always be better, tho floor presses are still going to good. Also do them with or while holding a glute bridge

In terms of what you would tend to do from the bottom I think JM press looks most similar in terms of joint angles. In the floor press your forearms are perpendicular to the floor and you're unlikely to start any pushing movement from that angle, you'll usually have your hands either protecting your neck or similar. You might also want to try reducing the stretch reflex (e.g. press off pins, pausing at the bottom, exaggerated eccentric) because you don't really have the opportunity to load up eccentrically while grappling.
At the end of the day I would say all of the exercises mentioned would be fine as you would be using them to build up general strength that you would then apply to a sport specific movement. Remember that your intention isn't to try to press your opponent up off you (doing that would tend to open you up to being armbarred). The angle of push would tend to be sideways and you're placing your hands on the side of their face/neck/shoulder/hip to brace against so you can hip escape yourself from underneath them. If you're trapped underneath a big rock you wouldn't try to press the rock, you'd try to escape yourself from underneath the rock.
depending on your technique, i cant imagine a huge difference. i only floor press and the ROM i lose is at best an inch, not really worth worrying about imo.
I'm guessing the lady has a distinctly less protuberant middle than you, Phillip.

Probably correct but it depends on what I've had for dinner! ;)
Thanks everyone!
Being able to touch your chest on floor press with a flat back is a pretty good definition of swole.

Or that you're a well-endowed female with a cast iron sports bra!
