Hey Folks,
I went down to Bethnal Green this evening to see the gym which has the reputation of being the most hardcore in london. It certainly did not disappoint!
The gym is fantastic, you walk in, and the first thing you notice is the plethora of photos and pics of bodybuilders that have trained in the gym on the walls. The walls are literally covered with them. You get the impression that its not the fanciest or modern type of gym, even the distinct odour of sweat (and blood perhaps?) was hardcore.
I was shown round by a guy called "Duschko", perhaps not even 5ft 6" tall, weighing perhaps 10 stone, with milkbottle-thick glasses. He had a slightly bizarre personality, a strange squint, and a weird haircut to top it off. But hell, was the guy enthusiastic. He reminsced of the days he had 19" ripped arms, as he showed me an old photo of himself ( i swear his arms looked a lot bigger than 19 in the photo).
He took me through the machines area, which was pretty full, but it was the free weights i really wanted to see. Infinite 45lb plates scattered the floor, with some oly bumper plates, dumbells went up to 180lbs, there were plenty of flat benches (not being hogged by kids too) - i was certainly impressed.
More impressive were the guys physiques that were training there, huge monsters, 20 stone plus. It was a strange feeling of euphoria that came over me. Suddenly i realised how small i was, but then i also realised how big i wanted to get. The atmosphere seemed perfect.
Just when i thought id seen it all, Duschko took me down the stairs to find, much to my surprise, another level of free weights. This was were all the real hardcore stuff was; the squat rack, a power-rack, and even more 45lb plates. Could this get any better? He walked me over to the cardio equipment. I muttered "but im not really interested in this". He laughed at me, telling me that "cardio will get rid of this", as he prodded my stomach. Cheeky sod.
Lastly he took me into the changing rooms - pretty standard stuff here, a sauna and sunbeds to boot, but not really stuff that im into.
This gym really is what its cracked up to be. It oozes hardcore. Sweat drips from the walls. Theres no fancy equipment, just old stuff. You'd never run out of 45lb plates. It is the 5hit.
I definately reccommend anyone who wants to see a real hardcore gym to check it out. I know for sure that some time in the future, i will be training there.
Sorry if i bored you guys!
