View Full Version : Alan Aragorn Research Review
Been subscribed to this for the past few months, and for $10 per month it's an absolute steal.
This guys provides an in-depth analysis of scientific papers (think those you can find on pubmed) covering most aspects of training, nutrition and supps, and most importantly what they actually mean to laymans like me. Even given I did a BSc I find papers notoriously difficult to read and infer anything useful from them.
He covers a range of topics in a "tell it how it is" no bullshit approach. If you sign up you also get access to past issues.
Sample issue here: http://user210805.websitewizard.com/files/unprotected/AARR-Jan-2008.pdf
Or a podcast if you want to know what he's about: http://thefitcast.com/episode-137-no-bs-with-alan-aragon
Cheers.
or maybe you could copy and paste the stuff to this thread each month because you love us?
It's a protected pdf so no can do sorry mate. Its WELL worth the cash, you'll learn a lot. Lightyears ahead of a certain crossfit journal someone on here was registered for... as good as MILO for you strength geeks.

I thought this was going to be about Lord of the Rings or something lol.
$0 a month would be real steal ;)
Will have a read. Thanks ATZ.
blahblahblah i could just edit out what i don't like :ban:
does it actually contain ainything strength related or is it all
creatine this
protein consumption that
shit aint changed mate, its the same as it always has been. ive had a look at the journal for strength and conditioning (or something similar) in uni, and it was wank.
Everyone can learn from it mate, whether it be quashing nutrition dogma or the ideal reps or sets for strength gains or hypertrophy. Not everything stays static mate.
i'm pretty sure the human body doesnt all of a sudden decide it wants to play hardball with regards to the normal training protocol of "lift, eat, sleep", but it's your money...
I would also question the practical value for any regular lifter. I mean everyone knows how to eat healthy, and I doubt anyone would notice any difference from what time they nailed some food PWO. Also, everyone (hopefully) has worked out how best to train for their goals.
What do you think this offers over and above?
Edit- Obviously if you're interested in this stuff just because, then more power to you.
Do they though John? There's so much mis-information in the diet and fitness industry it's nice to have a no BS point of view. For me the science behind stuff interests me hence I think it's worth the subscription. If you have no interest and just want to lift heavy and eat then that's your call.
Have a read of the example edition for a flavour and see what you think.
And Roars, if the human body were such a simple machine then why aren't we all ripped/jacked/swole? If we all supposedly know how to eat and train?

You're right about the misinformation, and as i say, if you find it interesting, then it is a good find.
I'm just saying that for people who lift, then there probably isn't a lot of practical value in there, or at least nothing worth worrying about. Half the time, the people who know exactly when to take their creatine are the ones making no progress year to year.
