I've got a non-oly standard bar, and I have no idea what I can use on it. I did a 161kg deadlift and it handled it well. I'm a bit wary of putting anything of 170kg on it though, what do you think?

coulkd be good for 200kg it wont just snap, i would think it will bend a bit first

this is just aguess btw im not a metal expert.

It's a body sculpture bar... I think Rob's standard bar snapped with 180kg on it.

However this is quite a solid bar.

Buy a real bar. Put it this way - do you want to be the one holding it when you find out PRECISELY what the breaking strain is?

Thought not.

Bars can be found quite cheaply, why take the risk of lifting with an unrated bar?

Yeah, but the picture is wider than just buying a new bar.

I would have to buy new oly plates too.

I'm only going to be around for another 9 months then I'll be at university and joining a gym, it just isn't worth the cash atm.

I'll probably get up to about 170kg with it, then just rep that, and by then I will be at uni I expect.

No. Mine snapped* with less than 165kg on it.

*bent more than 30 degrees.

Mine was solid steel. 1" diameter. Argos bought. Body scuplture/York BB.

i think mine can take a bit more than 160 yet, i think i'll do as i say and stick to 170 when i get there

My 5 foot bar has bent with only 130 Kg on. Seems they don't like to flex.

You could buy a stronger non oly bar, you can get rated ones of them but i belive the ratings like 700 lbs are to be taken with a pinch of salt

I've seen the bar you're using in the photo in your journal and I bent one similar to that a few years back after benching 200kgs+ a few times. I'd start thinking about upgrading to an oly bar once you start getting close to 200kgs in any of your lifts.

You might joke but I left 100kg on my 7 foot standard 1" bar for 4 weeks and it hasn't bent an inch! I got mine from evernew and its great.

Steel has a relatively high amount of elasticity before it fails, so it should bend a fair bit before it shits itself.

If 160 isn't bending it a whole lot, it should hold 200 no worries.
