View Full Version : 3 months in America.
My uni wants to send me to the US or NZ or Aus (or anywhere) for 3-12 months starting next June (end of May actually). But where do I go?
This is a great oppertunity and I want to make the bets of it, but I am having trouble making a descion on places to visit.
Before anyone says anything, I do NOT want to go to LA or NYC, thanks.
Well I'm biased, so I say come here to Melbourne.
What do you want out of it?

Check out New Zealand or Australia. I've heard they're both unbelievable. The US is a pretty easy trip to make and fairly cheap (comparatively) from the UK, so you can do it down the road. If school is paying, go big.
New Zealand is the most perfect place in the world, i would give my right bollock for residency!
Stunning beaches and mountains, awesome hiking and climbing, laid back, empty roads etc.... no contest for me
When you say 'places to vist' does that mean the uni are saying you don't have to stay in one place during the 3 - 12 months or are you using the trip to make your own 'detours'.If it was me defo NZ (as my brother lives there) or Oz.
Uni will pay my flights so long as I represent them in my field (plant bio) and/or work in that area. I would rather go for 3 months 'cos that way I would be back in time to start the next semester at uni without missing a year.
I really fancy the US myself, Aus/NZ never really appealed to me much TBH. Would be cool to see DMPM in Melborne, but the soft c*nt is over here by the time I go!
Any thoughts on actual cities people? Aus/NZ/USA are BIG places..
Thanks.

Well, you know I'm partial to New York City, but since you're not interested ... (just kidding around here). It sort of depends on what you want to see as far as the US is concerned. The terrain is really varied. From big cities that offer a quick trip to mountains and stuff (like LA or San Francisco), to places like the Grand Canyon, the Great Plains, etc. You'd probably have to narrow down your interests a bit.
what you say about chicago?
i'm here about 16 months.
pretty cool town
US City wise San Fran is my favourite of those i've visited, close [by american standards] to yosemite national park too, but North east [new england] was my favourite area by far, Boston would be my pick definitely, very cool city have a drink in the cheers bar, the white mountains a few hours north up in new hampshire kick ass, vermont in autumn is spectacular..........
oh and no-one there voted for the maniac!

You could go to Ohio for some hardcore training.
Oz rocks in my eyes....everything you could want that you have over here - good banter, quality of life, drinking buddies etc. but with a really outdoor/active/sporty lifestyle slant. Sydney is cool....as are many on the east coast but some quite small.
NZ's chilled, amazing scenery and again a good sporty take on things esp. if you like extreme sports. But for my taste a little too quiet....if you were going to settle down maybe it'd be a better bet but **** it your goin for 3-12 months - rip it up.!
Robert, I think the Americans still refer to university etc. as "school". We do to an extent.

The only thing Sydney has going for it is the weather, but there are better places for that anyway.
i dunno, i had my eyes full with some of the birds knocking about :050: but to be fair i never made it to Melbourne...maybe one day.
Yeah... I'll give you that. Did you get to Perth or Adelaide though? Pouch everywhere...
Where abouts in perth? I aint seen none. :(
None! I went over as a teenager and I remember the beaches were full! :049:
My best mate just got back and loved it. I'll get the details from him.
