View Full Version : Pikekings Real Man Monthly Challenge
it runs till the end of november
nice work maler
i dread to think how scared the gym members were when you did that
Non of the members really noticed most have heads up there own ass.
The gym fitness manger was non to happy, couple of the lifes hit the floor hard but what the hell it an gym not an yoga camp.:047:
Did hack squates, stach grip dead lifts and power clings after and boy did I feel the after maths the next day. Could not work out it was the base from Saxon and Motorhead corsing my legs to twich or the DOMS.
had the local superhero at my gym do 54 reps with 100kg yesterday
But I donot use any of same gym's as you:040:

Right guys, December is nearly upon us, so it is time for the next Man Challenge.
Max Weight From Floor To Overhead With One Arm!
1. Weight must start on the floor
2. The rep must finish with the weight locked out overhead
3. You can Snatch, Clean + Press, Bent Press, Push Press, TGU, whatever you like.
4. For the lift to count you have to do it with your left and right arm.
5. Post the weight lifted and % bodyweight
6. Extra MAN points maybe awarded for implement used: DB, BB, KB with chains or plates attached, sandbag if you're brave.
7. Do not injure yourself.
I think I am going to wait till the gym is real quite before doing this one lol
This is a tough one to judge what weight to attempt...hmmmm
Can you elaborate a bit more on the scoring and what the different objects would be worth. Will give this ago in a couple of weeks. Predictions...Winner... Slother!
Can you or Chris update the results page too please.
Might have a muck around with this today and have a proper bash in a week or two.
Bonus points for 2.5" handle?

i've made a new results page, which is stickied at the top of the forum.
the points for objects is just a bit of fun, there arent any, but people may like to try different objects for variety, the best weight overhead will most likely be on a DB but I'd personally like to attempt it with a KB and X amount of extra weight attached.
This looks cool, I'm gunna try it tomorrow. Is there any chance I can try the other 2 challenges for the competition? If not I'll try them anyway as they look cool

yeah i'll grant you special permission as you werent around at the time they appeared.
the chins and deadlift challenge must be completed by the 14th
Thanks mate. I think I will do Deadlifts on next back day (Weds) and Chins next weekend and I'll try this months challenge tomorrow before legs.

shit i just realised i'll have to redo all the scoring, dammit, me and my big typing finger!
oh well, you better make it good gringo
Cool table Andy, definately some incentive to get a decent result now!
Always new i'd be near the top at the BW stuff lol
Messed about with Decembers challenge tonight, most I can fit on my thick DB handle is 25k. I got 4 reps without too much trouble on the right arm (not done left). Will grab a few heavier discs of a mate and have a proper crack at it. Think 30k is a good target for clean and press. My best clean on a barbell is 70k so I don't know what to expect for single arm stuff.
yeah reckon 30 would be a good target, if your like me you'll probably find one arm easier than the other
Just done my December challenge.
DB Snatch - 50kg DB done with both hands @ 85kg BW - 59% of BW
Tried 52.5kg but nearly broke my shoulder!
Am going to do the Chins challenge later when I go to the gym.
Holly shit that's amazing at 85!
I wasn't planning on going any heavier than that, guess i will have too being 37kg heavier.
Shit 50 is bang on!!!
I'm having a stab at this tonight, I'm going with one arm clean and press on a Barbell I think for flair, mainly because the DB's and KB's only go to 50kg and 40kg respectively, and I've pressed the 50's before so I'll need a bar for any more weight.

Shit 50 is bang on!!!
Thanks mate, it was ****ing tough, especially as I have leg and shoulder DOMS but I was happy with it. Might try something fancier, like a BB but I think that would be crap for me.
Reckon a BB will be loads harder!!!
Here is the video of it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dr87fKkBs6Y
Reckon a BB will be loads harder!!!Single arm snatch with a BB is ****ing solid, i did 45 ages ago, but balancing it is crippling.
Christ Delboy that is impressive I'm about your weight but won't be anywhere near the 50 and from the vid it look comfortable too, kudos!!
You've certainly set a high standard :023:
October Challenge
29 chins in 3 minutes!!
**** that was tiring :(
Now just the Deadlifts which I'll do next week
Damn, nice work! >50kg is going to be tough.
Got 45kg C&P with a KB tonight - making that 43% of BW.
Had to strap a 5kg plate to the KB, tried for 50kg but was too awkward with a bigger plate strapped on. Its a start, think I'll have to get creative to break the 50 barrier, its the floor to overhead with one hand that provides the challenge!
i managed 34kg both hands with a db tonight, did 36.5 with my right but didnt want to attempt it with my left especially with having a gammy left leg at the mo
40kg BB snatch with right hand, only managed 35 with the left.

very nice Delboy! i think thats going to be the one to beat
and well done to those of you trying different implements
Thanks, I'm gunna try 52.5kg or 55kg before Decembers over. Can you update my 29 chins please to your leader board, is alot of effort I know but I'm worth it :P
PikeKing
06-12-2008, 20:43
I'm worth it
what is this? a L'Oreal advert?
Haha, I genuinely "LOL"d at that!
But yes I am worth it....
Or do you want to wait until I've done Max Deads then u can change it all at once?
PikeKing
07-12-2008, 09:07
yeah i'll do it all at once
Here's a pic of the set-up I used for the KB:
im gona try and give this a shoeing later. sloths debut in the PKRMMC.
48k db @ 91k bodyweight.
was easy, heaviest db in the gym so couldn't go higher.
Snatch, clean and press...?
im gona try and give this a shoeing later. sloths debut in the PKRMMC.
Remember its one hand only slother, no two hands to shoulder height!
well it was more like a rollie pollie :043:
clean and press, hook grip.
in the words of Z-evan esh, im gona kill it. feeling psyched today for some unknown.
... took a few attempts but managed to get 63, DB C&P.
hard hard work. knackered now.

Whats going on guys?
Only 5 people had a go at this months event!
Ha ha think the first attempt beating what most of us were expecting probably put everyone off! I'm going to have another crack next week I think, with a DB this time to see if that helps.
PikeKing
16-12-2008, 11:23
true Delboys attempt is a bit of a monster, though there are still points to be had for the overall standings
I'm going to have ago in the week between xmas and new years when the gym is quiet.
This guy beat us:
MCKuLT9wqP8
Good but what about the other hand, plus do I see a bit of help with the grip!
Yep we still rule!

last few days of the over challenge guys, I'm going to release the next one and tally up the scores this weekend
Hmm, can I squeeze in a better effort at this... Gym DBs only go up to 40! Maybe I'll try and have a bash at the weekend.
Totally forgot, will give it ago thursday.
42 dumbbell clean and press.
So what's the cunning plan for the next challenge Andy?
Bump! I fancy something cardio related - best 500m row? Or what about max BW squats?
Also get that table updated, I expect extra man points for my OH lift set-up.
Andy, the strongmen say they need an excuse to do crossfit so can you make "Grace" one of the challenges please and thank you.

ah thats handy
oh god, 60kg is actually hard for me to put overhead now!
PikeKing

Clean + Press Max Poundage Overhead in 5 Minutes
1. You can use any weight you like but you cant change it once you've started.
2. Weight must start on the floor for each rep.
3. Strict press, push press, push jerk all allowed.
4. Straps ARE allowed
5. No Belts
6. If you want to rest the bar on your power belly you CAN
7. Rest as much as you want but the clock doesnt stop
8. No dropping the bar on the way down, you must control it to the floor
Submit you results as follows:
If I use 50kg and I did 30 reps, I'd submit it like this: 50 x 30 = 1500
This challenge will run for whats left of January and all of February.
Have as many goes as you like, be interesting to see which is the best approach for this.
Get your sick buckets ready.

Entrants for last months comp:
666
Icepick
Delboy
Fred
ATZ
Fred and 666 I need your entries as BW %
as theres only 5 entries for this comp I'm tweaking the points system for the overall standing table.
If theres more than 10 entries, 12 for example, first place will get 12 points, second place 11 etc etc and one point for 12th place.
If theres less than 10 entries, first place will get 10 points and then the rest will count down from there.
Hopefully that will act as an incentive, even if you think you'll do poorly, you'll still get some valuable points if not many people man up and attempt it. Its a man challenge after all.
ok so i did 34kg both sides i was 82kg at the time so that gives 41.46%
**** me Andy, that is new levels of evil!
PikeKing

**** me Andy, that is new levels of evil!
haha yeah, its times like this I'm glad I'm an injured wreck :078:
originally it was 6 minutes
I'm thinking light weight x many reps will win this one. In fact anyone with any experince of Crossfit "Grace" (60kg C&P x 30reps as fast as poss) will know how evil this could be.
42 @ 120 = 35%
I reckon something like 30-40kg x loads will be the way for the new challenge. I might have a bash at this with my new axle for additional man points!
Andy, can kettlebells be used for this challenge? Obviously 2 'bells would be used.
Hmm, 2x16s would be decent for this. Having to touch the floor for each one would be the hassle as I'd be so used to just swinging through the legs and up again.
Grace weight or a bit more probably isn't a bad shout I reckon. 30x60kg would get you 1800, you'd have to do 45 reps with 40kg to get that, 45 reps is alot! 75kg would only need 24 reps. Hmm...

I think i'm going to have 2 bashes at this, 50 and 70/75.
This seems pertinant to the current challenge (http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/heavier_weight_less_time)

Yes you can use any implement you like, looks like i forgot to mention that. As long as each rep is from the ground.
48kg x 36reps in 5minutes = 1728kg Total.
Done with 2 x 24kg Kettlebells.
Going to have ago tomorrow after squat. Think I'll start at 70 and see how it goes.

you're doing it too JB or at the next meet you'll get bummed by an otter and a bear and a wolf
nice first attempt Aled, did touching the bells down make much difference for you?
Yeah lots, no stretch reflex from how you'd normally clean KB's. For some reason I reckon I could post a more impressive weight and number of reps with KB's than I could with a Barbell. I have a vid which if I can figure out how to stop it appearing jerky I'll post.
Surely that amount of furry loving would be an incentive not to do it? :kinky:
Also, I'm probably less fit than Tim.
You sick bastards. Chris or Aled the favourites?
I'd say Fred has a shout too, possibly one of the strongmen too.
35kg x 58 in 5 minutes = 2030kg
70kg x 24 in 5 minutes = 1680kg
Happy with this going to try 60 & 80 over the next couple of weeks. Was fitness more than anything weight was easy! Did 8 in the first minute and then it went rapidly downhill!
i would join you lads on trying the heavier weight thing but i'd probably get about 5 reps with 70kg!
I'd probably get one more rep with 35 lol.
Trained with Vinney tonight and pulled 48 x 30kgs - 1440kgs...... Recon the weight wasnt an issue, just the facted I was Fooooked. Might try it with 35 or 40kgs.
I'd like to thank the wonderful Vinney for making me hurt. What a bumholio.
Bet the bodygays were puzzled.
Loose the e Chris my lovely!
We got a lot of funny looks from the vest wearing homo's.
Crystal pushed it hard, was a good effort. ****er still didn't puke! Weve come so close Timmy we must break him!!!
I think he needs to squat 60x10x10 next week.
mr crystal a new member of the devon elite?
Hey Sloth,
Yeah, I train with Narc and Vinney on tuesdays (squat day)
Thought I'd check in and see if Narc is being a cnut to everyone.... and indeed he is.
Crystal Fanny is our YTS boy, Phil. He weighs 90lbs.
lmao. no better lads to train with then. i see there is alot of work to do ;)
90lbs, really? He'll have no better coaches in getting fat in uber quick time then! :029:
Yes lads 90lbs....
Thanks Tim, you ass.
DOOOO need to gain some weight though. Maybe another 90lbs? LOL!
Crystal is 88kg I think, he's also 4'6" and makes Sloth looks tall.
I met Narc through DevonStrongman.com, I met Crystal as he's courting my partners best friend, Crystal met Narc after living with the Manatee in the past. Small world and all that...
I met Crystal long before the Manatee migrated to our fair shores. Not that this is at all pertinent to the thread or in any way interesting to anyone ever.

This seems pertinant to the current challenge (http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/heavier_weight_less_time)
Seems like he's looking at half the picture and missing energetic considerations, especially when the idea is taken to a 5 minute challenge. There is possibly something in combining this with a heart rate monitor using anaerobic threshold as a guide.

Very true dickface, very true!
Think you should have ago at the monthly challenge next week with me?
Hmm, next week, I think that date clashes with me not wanting to die.
Its well worth the imminent death.
40kg overhead with both left and right arms. 39% of BW
40kg overhead with both left and right arms. 39% of BW
There is a new challenge up now! :014:
So yesterday
90kg x 17 in 5 minutes = 1530kg
150kg less than last time when using 70kg. Will have a play with 60 next time.
S 'Snipey' Ellett managed 50kg x 40 = 2000kg!! Expect him to take the leader position when we have another crack next week.
Really enjoying this months challenge, just a shame more people aren't getting involved.
I'm having another dabble this evening Vince.
I'm having a go tomorrow after squats. I'm serving the Crossfit total i'm supposed to be doing.
Anyway this runs till the end of feb so there is no rush.
29.01.09
50kg x 38 = 1900kg
Started too fast. I had the idea of banging out 10 rep then resting until the minute was up and then going again with a view to getting 50 reps. I'll have another go as i'm pretty sure my fitness is going to improve significantly by the end of feb.
Do it get extra manly points for doing this on the 11th day of a calorie deficit.
Do it get extra manly points for doing this on the 11th day of a calorie deficit.
No because dieting isn't manly.
I think I'll give this month a miss.
Really enjoying this months challenge, just a shame more people aren't getting involved.
I'll be having a crack at some point this month just going to be doing plenty of log and axle work now I've got them so lighter stuff is having to wait! Could have a go at work midweek actually.
Fair enough, stating the obvious but don't bother trying it with an axel or log as you'd be a lot slower.

That sounds ****ing horrible!
