View Full Version : Plate curl PR!!!
I have been exceptionally bored today, so I have been doing random grip stuff all day.
Just now, I manged to fit 2x10kg plates + 2x5kg plates on a DB handle that weighs 2.5kg and 2 hand plate curl it. That makes a grand total of 32.5kg. Cool or what? Did hurt though :)

Thats quite a big plate curl Rob! Good stuff!
Yeah, I am sick to the anus of trying to get that 15kg 1 hander. So Iam going to work on 2 hand plate curls for a while to see if that helps. + the increased lbage makes them more satisfying.
I want a 100lb 2 hand plate curl.

then u shall have it!
Scuse my ignorance but are plate curls done in the same manner as bar / dumbell bicep curls and is there a particular way to hold the plate i.e flat side to thumb?
Not done these before, like a lot of things i read about on here but if i don't ask i won't know.
Yes mate. Its full ROM like any normal curl is, and you pinch grip the plate, making sure NOT to wrap your fingers/thumb around any lips on the edge of the plate. Fingers on underside, thumb on top. You'll need chalk.
What sort of sets / reps would you say for for a first time plate curler
When I started I used 3x20 with 5kg. Any lower (reps) than that any you'll know about the next day. Now I use 12.5kg (10kg disc and a 2.5kg disc pinched together) for 10x3.
Cheers Rob,will give em' a go.
Why is that cool?
I had a go of this earlier and managed 45kgs and I've never even tried it before.
45kg is waaaaaaaay above the WR for 1 handed, and not too far off the 2 handed WR. Well done. But consider the circumstances. That was my first try at a 2 handed plate curl, and I have been training properlly for 12 months, ish. You have been doing that for 25 years.
