Is there anything wrong with taking Ibuprofen over a long period of time? I'd like to take it everyday for the next few months.

why are you going to be taking it?

I'll be taking it untill the tendonitis in my elbow clears up. The bottom of my tricep was feeling inflamed at work tonight. Some moderate lifting, stretching and Ibuprofen should get rid of it after a few months.

hmmmm

i'd be very careful of lifting while on ibuprofen with tendonitis, you may do more harm than good

Ibuprofen has been shown to slow protein synthesis. However my response whenever some mentions this and I'm hurt is, "I don't care!"

As well as blunting protein synthesis it will actually increase the time that it takes too heal so should only be used for short periods of time.

it will prevent inflammation which "could" slow down healing (due to lack of inflammatory proteins in the area) but the lowered levels of swelling could prevent cellular damage outwith the damaged area

I would recommend that you take it only when painful and inflamed

iceing it every hour, 5-10 minutes at a time for about 4 hours could help

also, where that elbow sleeve you have at all times

next time your down il have a good look at it and il find out in advancec anything else you could do

Yeah, I think that 'may' or 'could' slow healing would have been a better choice of words.

Loads of info. here if you're interested http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/2003/0103/stovitz.htm

I think I'll only take it if it's really sore then.

I personally would never use NSAIDs for any prolonged period of time, and only very, very occasionally if I have a banging migraine

The biggest risk with taking NSAIDs over a long period of time is ulceration of the stomach, which can lead to bleeding. If this occurs over a long period it can cause you to become anaemic, but you have to lose a significant amount of blood for that to happen.
