View Full Version : Sheringham Strongman comp
Events
1. 100kg log (standing) for reps in 75secs -
Initial lift from the floor, then reps from the chest to the overhead position.
2. 260kg deadlift for reps in 60 secs -
Normal gym deadlift with weights on a bar. No straps or tacky permitted.
3. 380kg Tyreflip for reps in 90 secs -
Gloves are permitted, but no tacky.
4. Sword hold for time
5. Farmers Walk 70 kg each hand over approx. 40 metres -
Any help and advice on how to train for this specifically, which is on August 5th, so i have slightly under 3 weeks.
1. Log lift - my max push press is 95kg, i've never tested my max jerk. So clean and jerk is going to have to be a priority in the gym right? Also i need to learn a continental clean and also get some time on a log.
2. 260kg deadlift, well i'm ****ed. my max is only 195kg and i've only been training rackpulls as this was originally going to be a car deadlift event. The weight may however be reduced depending on the standard of competitors and the organiser is getting suggestions on SDF that 260kg is waaaaay to high for a novice/intermediate comp and that 200/220 would be more appropriate for reps. Any specific ideas for bringing up my deadlift?
3. Tyre flip - never done it. I'll make sure i have a taster on the tyre before the event some how. Anything i can to in the gym to help?
4. Crucifix hold - i guess db holds and lateral raises etc will help
5. Farmers - i'm happy with this event :038:
Log is pretty heavy tbh, the event I'm doing is 85kg for reps! There's no sepciifc way to train the log imo other than with a log - to me it feels like such a different groove because of the position the log is in when racked, plus its neutral grip. I wouldn't necessarily worry about the clean as your only gonna have to do that once, just get as many sessions in on that log at Pitbulls as you can.
Deadlift - well thats just ridiculous, the england U105's is that weight and thats a national standard open event. I'd hope they drop it to 200-220 and maybe beg for it to be 18" as well, then its a least doable for a couple of reps.
Tyre - Yet again, that is heavy. I think you should be ok.
Cruifix - Yep lat raises etc all the way.
Farmers - You'll have that, maybe a couple of drops if its 40m but you'll complete the course.
that is normal weight for the tyre, you need to get some practice in the tech is very specific, diesel crew have just realeased a vid about better tyre technique so look it up on youtube.
get practicing on a log, it is nothing like an axle, or oly bar. it is brutal and will dominate you if you dont practice it. makie sure your breath and rest at the lockout in between reps, if you rest with it on your chest, you will fatigue a hell of alot quicker.
ps. i am hoping the allison report is complete, i guess i will see in 5 mins.

i think you will be happy enough
Forget about jerking the log, work on your push press in the gym as hard as you can and get some time in on the log. Don't worry about the clean too much, anyone can clean a log once shown how, continentals on a bar won't help anyway.
Tyre, again like everyone's said, you need to get some practice on one. You have the strength no problem, it's a pretty easy technique to learn, many people have it straight off, so you should be sorted on that one I'd have thought.

260kg deadlift is a serious amount of weight to be mauling!!!
WTF !
260K Deads
70K Farmers.
I`d be very dubious of a comp that has these weights myself.
It could be a mistake or as i expect they haven`t got a clue :011:

hmm interesting, hadn't thought of that before. I've been breathing whilst resting it on my chest, and I do tend to fatigue quickly when using my log, so maybe this is my problem.

Theres been lots of comments on SDF about this too. I thinking (hoping) the deadlift will drop closer to the day. I'll certainly be doing my best to convince Richatd he needs to.

actually i never noticed tose farmers, they seem light
70kg farmers doesn't make any sense with a 260kg Deadlift. For anyone who can do a 260kg DL, those farmers will feel like shoping bags and they'll be sprinting with them like there is nothing there.
Speaking of shoping bags have you seen the pic of Dale on SDF, made me laugh

A 260 18" aint a work in the park either Aled. Those events are messed up. Tyre should be fun (why would you use gloves), remember lean into it and push it up rather than try and pick it up.
