So as the holidays draw closer whats everones thoughts on it?
I hate Xmas and all the exspense as i feel it is totally commercial and has lost so much of the magic i remember from when i was younger, but i enjoy spending time with my family and friends as life is hectic i try and make time and effort for them, also we should get the wsm telivised on bbc1 towards new year which is always enjoyable. Hope fully we should have a kick ass fire works display on new years too and a huge barbeque
I agree. Thankfully its finally december, not long to go. I've had enough of the xmas decorations and music in the shops already, as you say its completely commercialised now and they seem to start it as early as september/october in some shops. And then by the time it comes and goes I am glad it is over with!

I was just like you Bengdogg , then I got a visit from three ghosts one xmas eve .....
No ,seriously - I started seing a girl ( now my wife ) who had two kids from her previous marraige - having kids around sort of brings the magic back
Now my own little boy is 15 months old - I am really looking forward to it ! I feel like a kid again myself and can't wait to see his face on xmas day
Last year he loved it although at 3 months he was too young to understand what was going on - By his birthday he was getting the hang of presents
So this year he should like it even more - And NEXT year he'll really understand whats going on !
Just one example of the rewards of having kids - The Magic of Xmas comes back again !

Same here Matt, my boy is 27 months old and he loved opening presents at his birthday in September.
This Christmas he's got loads of Bob the builder and Thomas the tank engine stuff, he's going to love it. He gets all excited and it's so funny.
I'll have to get the video camera out on Chrimbo day...
Its annoying. I am not a Chirstian, and none of my family are, so we don't really celebrate it. I used to recive presents (and give them) when I and my brothers were younger, but now we don't bother. My gf and I exchage presents more for the sake of it than anything else, and my grandparents always give us money, but thats about it. Load of crap if you ask me, I don't worship Jesus so I don't give a flying sh1t about the 25th of December.
I also detest the way it gets shoved down my thorat. If muslims went about singing muslim songs door to door like them fcuking annoying carol singers they would get beaten up... Slight anomoly?
P.S. I am not muslim.

jesus wasnt born on 25/12/??

most peoples knowledge about Xmas and why they celebrate it is equivalent to my knowledge on nuclear physics.
my thoughts are that society is so messed up that people need an excuse to ne 'nice' ( :030: ) to their families and friends. this is the number one reason why people celebrate Xmas despite not being christians or pagans. the whole year is available for being nice towards people you love (and dont love) and should be used as such.
by no means am i justifying Xmas but...
if there was no Xmas then you would have a lot of people out of work and you wouldnt have millions of crappy things being made and sold! its very good for business. very good.
people should have the right to practise their religion. the only problem today is globalisation and the iron grip the media has on people. you just cant escape Xmas.
oh yeah.... santa isnt real :022:

I like the good mood, good food and decent TV at Christmas, you never get sick of The Great Escape and It's a Wonderful Life. What weight related stuff will Santa be bringing youse this year? I think I'll get myself a shiny new singlet and maybe some books.

Well I'm not a fan of it all. Far too commercial as already pointed out, kids want so much these days!!
pop another lump of coal on the fire saying as it dec 25th Mr Crachit.
I'm a bit like Scrooge, too misery to put my central heating on, sitting in the smallest room of the flat on my pc with an electric radiator to keep me warm.

i'm looking forward to christmas this year. i've never really celebrated it before - my family are chinese and my previous partner was jewish. this year i'm throwing myself into the whole christmas thing (minus the religion), i've been doing christmas shopping, its a chance for me to spoil my little sisters. i know its all very commercialised but its an excuse for me to spend time with my family and my bf and show my caring by buying gifts for them.

Mate, I'm a Christian. Let me tell you, Christmas is not about walking around singing crappy songs, spending vast amounts on shitty presents or decorating your home with images of false idols made up by American soda companies.
Joel, I am sorry if I offended you pal. What you say is very ture, hence my opinions. Christmas should be for Christians and thats about it, I wont go into why I am not a Christian, but as an atheist or whatever you want to call me (gentile?) there seems very little point in my being happy about having to spend a fortune on presents and not being able to go to town on the weekend without 300 000 people crushing me half to death in the rush to get to the Debenhams blue cross sale.
If Christmas meant being nice to people, and Christians quietly celebrating the birth of Jesus in there church's/own homes, then thats fine. Unfortunately though, as we both know, it ain't sh1t all like that.
Mores the pity.
Rant:
Card compaines, WTF. F**king cu*ts. WTF does a f**king card mean? Sh*t all, thats what. "Have a nice xmas, love blah blah." WOW. Great. Cheers. NOT. How 'bout a phone call? I'd sure as hell rather speak to a person and tell them how much I appreciate them than recive some sh*tty overpriced piece of wood pulp. F**k off with your cards.

Like everything else in life Xmas is what you make it - course it is commercial nowadays - but what isn't ?
I have no religous beliefs , and neither do my faimily - but we will take the opportunity to have a great time, catch up with each other & exchange gifts
Xmas is ALWAYS going to be there ! ( at least for the forseeable future ) It's not going to go away no matter how grumpy a stance you take ! so you may as well find some way to enjoy it
Matt, I think maybe I come accross as like some grumpy cu*t in this thread, thats not the case. I don't go and sulk in the corner everytime someone mentions Christmas, but thats not to say I enjoy it either.

Not offended at all mate. I basically dislike Christmas for all the same reasons as you've said, although I am a Christian.
Seasons greetings. ;)
