Setanta to become home to UFC

17 January 2008

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC) organisation and Setanta Sports have announced a multi-year deal to make Setanta Sports 1 the exclusive home for all of the UFC’s big UK and US fights plus all other UFC programming, in Britain and Ireland.

The deal will see Setanta Sports broadcasting all the UFC UK fights in 2008 and 2009 and later in July 2008 all other cards will be available exclusively live on Setanta. As such, Setanta subscribers in 2008 will be able to see at least four UK live events and after July, all other US live events.

UFC fans should note that all the UFC supercards will NOT be available on a pay-per-view basis, but only to Setanta Sports subscribers at just £9.99 a month, reinforcing Setanta’s position as premium sports broadcasters offering great value to sports fans.

A tenner isn't too bad. It's way cheaper than what the americans pay - $45.
They need to secure broadcast rights to K1 and shooto that would make me a very happy bunny.

**** :( Pay plenty for sky+ and sky sports already. Setanta are a bunch of rip-off merchants so I'm not paying them a penny.

I registered with Setanta last night, just so I could watch ufc80 live. I told them I was thinking of cancelling it after the end of the month, but that's when they told me that all ufc's will be shown on Setanta after July, so I think I'll keep it.

Are you sure it's £5 a month? I have sky digital, but I had to pay a £12 registration fee to start with and then £9.99 a month.

This whole pay for TV is crap IMO. Even Sky and Virgin media subscriptions are a rip off. Surely there's enough advertising revenue to pay for new shows.

I won't even pay for a standard TV license.

95% of TV is shit anyway.

Yeah it is all a big rip. For instance I only watch a small selection of programs on TV for the 40 a month I shell out for sky.
I get so sick of the adverts that usually half way into a program I just end up turning it off and playing the guitar or internetting !
All the cartoons such as simpsons/family guy etc etc and other programs from the US I download as we normally have to wait half the year to catch up.
It sucks balls.
