I'd really like to see Matt Hughes win but I can't see it happening.
Wanderlei will annihilate Chuck.
Dunno about the rest lol

Yeah I mean as above, I think St Pierre should win in the sense he is a damn good fighter and athlete, he is very fit and it shows as well.

On the other hand, as has been said, he has only a months notice for the fight, and he usually likes to take at least 3 months before a fight to ramp things up.

Also let's not forget Matt Hughes is very strong and technical and could easily pull something out of the bag..

Either way, I hope it's a really good fight instead of a load of shite.

I think VVanderlai will beat Chuckie as well, but then again, when you have that kind of power in the fists like those big boys you never know who could catch a lucky punch!

I can't wait anyway !!! I love UFC

I'll pick St. Pierre over Hughes, I think Hughes is going to get kicked in the head again ha ha ! We all saw how GSP pwned Kos in the wrestling and he is supposed to be a D1 collegiate blah blah blah. So yeah GSP by T(KO).
Wand V Chuck... well Chuck didn't even bother to check any kicks from Keith Jardine so I reckon Wand will have studied the tapes and will have a stragery based on picking shots and moving forward and making sure Chuck can't get off those awkward looping overhand punches. I think Wand will take this by KO 2nd round.
Soko's career has been a little like Houston Alexander in so far as he has KO'd two well known guys in under 2 minutes. Machida is a very good technical fighter not the most intersting to watch at times, however he is so good at avoiding shots and his traditional karate style proves to be too much for some, anyone remember him kicking the shite out of Rich Franklin ? If Soko is taken to the 2nd round Machida will pepper him with his jab and prob get the TKO.
Can't really call Clementi and Guillard only seen a couple of their fights

GSP will prob kill Hughes, I dont like GSP but cant ignore he a very good fighter and he's got Hughes in number in every part of the game.

Chuck will have to do something different in this fight. Remembering he is a mixed martial artist would be a good place to start. I hope Chuck wins but I'm not sure he can do it, someone is getting KTFO.

Sokoudjou by early arse whooping, if it gets out of the first, Machida by boredom.

I like GSP and hope he wins fairly squarely.I would like to see Chuck win if only because I do not like Silva at all.Interested in Sokoudou fight as well.

Thought the Lister fight might have been televised as well though....

Yea,a bit Americanized but at least you don't get the feel from the presenters that "oh this martial art is total bollocks".They seem quite into it and willing to learn and not too gung ho and "my style is best".

Looks like everyone made weight okay. And Silva/Lideel almost started a day early at the weigh ins.

"Former light heavyweight champions Chuck Liddell (Pictures) and Wanderlei Silva (Pictures) stood nose to nose Friday inside the Mandalay Bay Events Center, one day away from their much-hyped and long-discussed fight.

Years of anticipation and frustration nearly boiled over as the former UFC and PRIDE champions, respectively, stared at one another after making weight.

Silva (205 lbs.) moved moved towards Liddell (204 lbs.) with his head, prompting UFC president Dana White to jump between two of the most dangerous fighters in mixed martial arts history.

Moving away from Silva, Liddell showed his distaste for the Brazilian by giving him the finger. Silva attempted to make his way across the weigh-in platform, but was stopped by UFC officials and event security.

The evening's main event participants were much more cordial. After each making weight at 170 pounds, former UFC welterweight champions Matt Hughes (Pictures) and Georges St. Pierre (Pictures) shook hands on the eve of their rubber match.

UFC 79 airs live on pay-per-view from Las Vegas, Nevada, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. PST/10 p.m EST. "

Wand is great, the most aggressive fighter to ever compete in MMA imo.
All the partying is gonna catch up with Chuck he has not changed his training in all the years he has been fighting and the last two fights exposed that big time. People have him figured out.

PikeKing
29-12-2007, 09:40
yup like i said at the start of the thread, chuck has forgotten he is a mixed martial artist.

the one thing thats probably in his favour, chucks style matches wands for some counter punching

i like this program as well, the one thing i will say is that they use the same lines in every episode

'this martial art is one of the deadliest styles around'

'we have never trained this intensely before'

etc

well this event turned out to be an emotional roller coaster for me

soku got owned
the chuck/wandy fight was good though wandy didnt really seem to be in it, chuck shot a couple of times!

i watched in horror as GSP completely owned Matt Hughes and to make things worse, GSP forgot his fight shorts so was in the octagon in his pants.

he completely out wrestled Hughes, there was absolutely nothing he could do.

GSP is truly an awesome fighter, if serra gets better and him and GSP fight again, serra will get destroyed, i cant see anyone in that division even coming close to competing with GSP.

shame i dont like him, i could have him

great event, i was actually excited watching this and not many things excite me

looking at lidell and wandy when they walked in i sided with lidell, he just looked 'on it'. wandy looked a little nervous i think. that was despite me liking wandy.

same thing with gsp and hughes, before the fight started i thought hughes looked like he was going to do over gsp but very early into the first round i realised i was backing the wrong horse. gsp looked awesome.

also enjoyed the soku/machida fight

the clementi v guillard fight was entertaining :016: hahaha, didnt want guillard to win

Just got done watching this event..
Bit gutted with the Chuck/Wand fight but it was still entertaining, did not expect a decision but I don't think anyone did.
GSP was awesome, completely owned Matt in every aspect and the submission sweet.
Machida needs a title shot soon too, he is so accurate and Soko looked lost on the ground great fight;.
I'm still buzzing.. well that and the beers are keeping me going !
Just Yarennoka and K1 to go !! wish I was in Japan for these....

This was a fantastic event.

Was on my feet for most of the Liddell Silva fight, very exciting fight, just wish Chuck would have finished him. But all respect for Wandy, he did well to take Chuck’s punches, most guys at 205 would be on the floor after the first few he threw. I was rooting for Chuck, but felt a bit sorry for Wandy after, but imo this outcome is better for the light heavy weight division, because Wandy will get another chance, but it might have been a different story for the ice man if he had lost.

This is what I think should happen with light heavy weight division over the next few months:

Tito vs Shogun (Has this been confirmed yet?)
Jardine vs Evans - Winner fights winner of Tito vs Shogun
Chuck vs Machida - Winner either gets a title shot or fights winner of the above then gets a title shot.

Wandy to fight who ever loses from the above.

Back on the subject of ufc79. Gsp vs Hughes. After about 2 minutes of watching this fight I was asking myself “How is Hughes going to actually win this fight?” He got owned, gsp was throwing him about like a rag doll and he couldn’t do anything about it. Anything Hughes can do, gsp can do it better, and this doesn’t just go for Hughes, this goes for all the welterweights. Gsp is basically untouchable at the moment.
I cant see Hughes fighting again after this. He said so many times on tuf6 that if he knows he cant win, he wont play, and after this performance I think he knows for sure he cant win his title back.

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:38
Hughes may now retire, though i can see him fighting matt serra maybe in the future depend on how long it takes for him to recover and subsequently lose his title to GSP.

the tito shogun fight has been talked about a lot, i dont know if its confirmed, not heard anything for definate.

jardine and evans wont fight as they train together, its annoying when that happens

probably more likely they put machida against jardine

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:39
maybe soku vs wandy?

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:43
or how about chuck vs machida, be interesting, two unorthadox strikers

people are already talking about wand dropping to 185

Tone C
31-12-2007, 12:44
I could see Hughes fight Serra and then retire. If he loses then fine cos he was not really expected to win.If he wins he retires and vacates the belt, goes out in style. And then we get Serra-GSP for the vaccated belt.

steve
31-12-2007, 12:47
Hughes may want to fight Serra, but why bother if he’s not going to get his title back?

I think Shogun is fighting at ufc83 but his opponent hasn’t been confirmed yet. A fight against Tito would be great and I think there’s a great chance Tito could actually win this one as well.

Ah yes, I remember seeing evans and jardine training together on countdown to ufc78, they are the best of friends aren’t they, shit.

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:51
hughes apparently has 2 fights left on his contract, he doesnt need to fight though as hes loaded obviously from all his mma plus his farm and he's always said that his farm and his family are more improtant to him than fighting, thats part of why he left the miletich camp.

evans and jardine were on tuf2 together and then jardine invited evans down to greg jacksons gym and hes been there ever since he won tuf2

Tone C
31-12-2007, 12:52
I think that Hughes has a shot against Serra. Its just that he will be written off by a lot of people after losing to GSP 2ce and in such a fashion.Hughes is still a good fighter, not as dominant as he once was but this is MMA and he has a good chance. Not against GSP who looks so much better than him but against Serra,I reckon he has a chance.Plus the 2 men do not like each other and I can see Hughes wanting to prove he can go out with a bang.

Chuck?Hmmmm,don't know TBH.

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:54
obviously the ufc promo wagon can promote the hell out of a hughes serra fight, all depends how long serra is out for and i think it can only happen after serra loses to gsp.

chuck vs machida i reckon

Beaker
31-12-2007, 12:57
I'd like to see GSP get the title back as he fully deserves it. It would be nice to see Hughes give Serra a smashing before he retires. I don't really care for Tito, he fought Ken slamcock 3 times in the most retarded money making saga in UFC history, got owned by Forrest Griffin and somehow pulled out a judges decision on that one and had a really shite performance against Rashad. I hope shogun gets his act together and destoys him.

PikeKing
31-12-2007, 12:58
i agree about tito, he should have to fight chuck again, that'd be funny

steve
31-12-2007, 13:01
I would like to see Hughes vs Serra and it’s very likely Serra will lose to gsp in the rematch so it definitely a possibility for both these guys to meet.Hughes certainly does have a good chance against serra, but at the end of the day it’s up to Hughes weather he want’s to come back and fight one more time with out it leading to a title shot.

Beaker
31-12-2007, 13:03
i agree about tito, he should have to fight chuck again, that'd be funny

Would be good for a laugh I guess. The prospect of Machida V Chuck excites me. Machida is very hard to hit and when returns fire he lands pretty much everything. Chuck is quite wreckless at times with his punches and I think Machida could capitalise on that and make him pay.

steve
31-12-2007, 13:05
I dont mind tito. Yes, he's a cocky ****, but I can see him man handling shogun and then g&p him. But who ever wins, should be an exciting fight.
