View Full Version : Zma
Hi all,
Just a quick couple of questions. I took zinc a while ago for non training purpose but noticed an increase in sex drive (so I'm guessing would have some carry over to training) I stopped after a while and was wanting to get some good quality zinc as everything I've looked at in the shops has calcium as a main ingredient so not really wanting to spend out on stuff that doesn't work.
So is Zma going to be the safest purchase? And does anyone here use it? If so wheres best to get it from (cost/quality wise)
Thanks all.
I use it. At least I have for the past week.
I've skipped the last few days to judge the increase in sex drive / test in EFA's which I'm currently taking. I'm soon to take both.
Sex drive is increased as you stated, as is mood and refreshment upon waking, besides an increase in energy.
I've noted dizzy spells whilst taking it however. I get at least 1 every day, as did someone else in my family who also took it...
I buy from Discount Supplements. The ZMA is their own brand.

have took it before, got the runs, apparently it was the magnesium
For the increase in quality sleep alone, ill take it again soon.
did nothing for me. in all seriousness, if i need a decent sleep to rejeuvanate, green is the way for me.
oh, yeah, how could I forget, sleep is sound and dreams are vast and vivid.
It reminded me of the dreams I used to have when I wore Nicotine Patches. :045:
I've been using the allinone ZMA for the last 5 weeks.....i bought a 2 month supply....in the new year i shall stop taking it to judge the difference. However i think it is an awesome supplement and will probably continue to take it.

I think he means weed lol, although I never exactly feel refreshed after a night getting stoned. Thanks for all the answers! I shall get some now... just gotta find allineone's website time to use the search function!

A supplement that does work! Seems to have some calming properties if after a busy day you can't relax it does seem to offer this as an additional benefit to those already mentioned. Haven't taken it for a month will be purchasing again.
Arrived a couple of days ago. So far taken 3 shortly before I go sleep. Very vivid dreams strange ones as well... apparently my brain doesn't like the idea of me going to war and killing child soldiers. Anyway, is it best to take all 3 before bed or spread out throughout the day?
all 3 before bed. dreams were vivid for the first week and then subsided for me

That's how it works for me, if I take on an empty bell then they're vivid again.
I've strated taking this stuff and I love the vivid dreams I'm getting, makes sleeping exciting :045:

Yea definitely, woke up last night and took me a few seconds to realise I wasn't dreaming. How's everyone finding test levels, slightly elevated or not noticeable? Only thing I would say for me is it's possibly higher by my morning standard, only taking the stuff for a few days so all good, not expecting much anyway fairly sure my test is pretty high but the sleep is nice!
how the hell can you tell that test levels are slighly higher in the morning!!
I have been taking this stuff for 3 months now, can feel a little carming effect. not sure about anything else though.
Well ok maybe a bit of an overstatement but morning glory takes a LOT longer to go away so really only sex drive.

pick, are you cycling your ZMA? I noticed allinone suggest a month on, month off approach.
no.
I'll come off it this week, only used it to help me get some sleep on the low carb diet I've been on.

Well this along with stuff like tribulus can raise your SHBG levels which is part of testosterone that makes you horny and smelly, but in no way does it leads to an increase in free test as it doesnt actually open the anabolic receptors that increased test production or steriods would...
meaning: it will help raise your sheets, but not your deadlift.

Haha cheers! Small deadlifts, smelly and horny... fits my aspirations perfectly! :038:
Has anyone suffered from difficulty getting to sleep when they come off ZMA? I took it for November and December and always used to fall straight to sleep. Now its taking 20-30 minutes before i doze off
It's known to keep some people awake, despite the claims that it's good for sleep, according to a few reviews I've read.
I bought some on a whim and started taking it last week, and have noticed epic, very vivid dreams, beyond that, nothing else. I'll keep it up another week or two and see, if not I might ditch it, as my dreams tend to be monumentally disturbing.

I have a long history of sleep problems and ZMA really seems to help with sleep quality, but it does give some very... interesting dreams.
Most litters/athletes are zinc and Mag deficient, so if nothing else than the fact that it gives me good sleep I take it, as good sleep=good recovery. Also the side benefits of zinc and mag such as immune system, cardiac protective etc etc make it a worthwhile supp imo.
Recently started on 5-HTP before bed too and sleep has never been better.

I've never had a problem sleeping besides frequently not being arsed to go to bed at a decent time, but I don't normally have dreams as vivid as this, I guess it's an indication of better snooze quality though.
ive never had the dream thing people report but i do find my sleep much less restless. no other effects though, slight horn increase.
When i used to work nights ZMA helped me sleep better. Other than that no noticeable effects.

What brand of 5-HTP are you using Aled? I tried one from a local health shop... did precisely dick.
Pre-bed I always take ZMA and Phosphatidyl Serine (blunts cortisol production associated with poor sleep), and sometimes valerian root.
This little combo has improved my sleep no end, and no doubt has a great effect in aiding recovery. I would recommend it to anyone looking for help in getting more peaceful and quality sleep (though it doesn't unfortunately prevent the 3am wakeup for a pi$$)!

I've never even heard of Phosphatidyl Serine! Where did you get it from?
Myprotein.co.uk sell it - it is pretty expensive on face value, although you only need a dose of around 2x300mg per evening, so it lasts for ages.
It was a Berardi recommendation as it happens - I was looking for something to help with CNS regeneration/recovery, as I was finding that during harsh periods of training (e.g. football preseason) I was tending to crash and burn. Along with good diet etc., it seems to have done wonders.

Thanks for the tip! I have occassional 2-3 day bouts of really poor sleep; I'll have to remember about that.
