View Full Version : New Suit
Need a new suit for job interviews in London but know nothing about them. How much for a decent one, any brands which are recommended etc, etc.
Any advice much appreciated.
Cheers

whats the job? whats the budget?
Got a Moss Bros near you? They sell good suits and usually have an offer of some kind on. They will give you advice too.
head to slaters mate, for deffo, you can pick up a decent hugo or low end labeled one for about 200-250.
failing that if you need one quick for a few quick jobs interviews or a last minute funeral (always happens) matalan for under £50 coat, trousers and double cuff.
imo a contrastin scarf can look fab instead of a tie if you wana wear one out to dinner or something to dress it down slightly. :023:
Forget about matalan man, you will just look like a bus driver. Also you don't need to be spending 250 on a suit. Get yourself to Burtons mate. you will find lots of very decent suits for around 100 quid.

hahaha that's the funniest thing ive heard today
Next or Marks and Sparks comes to mind. Can get decent enough suits from 90-130 quid.
As for style. Ure probably better off askin in the shop. Everybody will have their own taste.
£100 suits look like £100 suits.

Agreed M&S Have some pretty good stuff actually. Alternatively if you have time you can get a taylored suit with two pairs of trousers and 3 shirts for about 450 quid from one of these places that ship them over from china etc then adjust them in the uk (depends what material you ask for etc and can range up to over a grand). I have several friends who work in the city who use these sort of services. If you have a month or so I can probably put you in contact with a good one recommended by my friends at Morgan Stanley.

Haha! You don't need to wear a suit to get a job when you're as swole as us :045:

Burtons? You having a ****ing laugh? If you want a suit for going to sports dinner, messy nights out with pals then yes head there by all means. For a job interview? No way, you can spot a shit suit miles off in both fit and appearance. First impressions no matter what people say still say a lot about you. As Phil said, get to Slaters - good selection and the guys in there will always help ya out.
budget money for shirts and a variety of ties and shoes too if you are going to be working in a 'suited and booted' environment. And overcoat too.
cheers guys, much appreciated.
Appling for graduate project manajor jobs atm in London so definately need to look the part. Budget i'd say would be £300-400. Does anyone know anything about "STG" and "Cerruti" suits. They've been recommended.
BTW, Van Halen, if you wouldn't mind looking into this for me i'd be v. grateful.

C, I wouldn't worry about the brand, at that price they're all pretty much the same.
Go with one A) You like (the appearance of) B) Fits well, it will make you feel confident wearing it, always needed when interviewing.
If you're only looking for one for interviewing at the moment just make up an "interview outfit" One suit, couple of shirts that go with one or two ties and pair of shoes, no need to go the whole hog with lots of different shirts and overcoats etc till you actually nail down a position.
Yeah forget about brands, fit is everything. The best branded £2k suit in the world will look like a pile of shit on you if it doesn't fit right.
slaters to tailoring in the suit cost. trust me mate, slaters is the best for good priced and quality. been, done and bought.

His e-mail is:

As I said you'll need to plan ahead for this as he's only in the UK from time to time. Give him an e-mail you never know. He certainly spends a fair amount of time in London. He measures you and asks you about styles etc (revision needed perhaps) then the suit is made in china and shipped over then he can make alterations in the UK. My mates suit by him looks sweet and you can't beat taylored shirts.
