how many of you guys do specific cardio work in your training, whethers on a machine, complexes, skipping etc...
what do you do? how often and for how long?
PikeKing

No, probably should.
how do u get on with events cardio wise?
I suffer. My log press at the Cully novice being a perfect example, full reps from the floor, killed me. It was light, the last was as easy as the first strength wise, but I was dying on my arse.
However, I will not be doing any more novice comps. And the weights being what they are in the u105's, I shall not have the luxury of needing to worry about my cardio for some time yet...

Ride my mountain bike and do a lot of walking, i am going to start training again tomorrow and its winter bulk time, although part of me is tempted to buy a road bike (yknow racer like tour de france) as i keep getting fed up on my mtb and i am slowly becoming more reclused and cant be arsed with the whole lets meet up and ride for 1 hourand talk for 2, im not even breaking a sweat doing it, so then i ride like stink home so i actually get a decent load on my cv system
none, but i really should.
C
You know I do.......
......and I am still fat......
......sucks.....
same as tim. obv i've got no comp experience, but during training although my max axle is ok rep wise, from the floor i get to the third rep and start to die, hence why when i train..i do three reps.
Skip occasionally, bag work and warm ups on rower prior to lifting...
personally i think high rep squats and deads should count as cardio, ;)
Okay,I run and grapple, hit the bag(she fights back though,so....) and the speed ball, box, and cycle. And Tabatas too.

Aye, do some hybrids, tabatas, high-rep kettlebell stuff, circuits...

high rep squats and a run up 2 flights of stairs a couple of times a day is all i do

Laying down were they?
thinking about it, is cardio all that important. i mean i know it has it's place, but i'm guessing most people on this board either bodybuild or powerlift?? can't the benefits of cardio be achieved simply with high rep compounds, tabata, reduced rest etc etc
surely running 5k's is a bit counter productive to GFH??
C
cycle to work and back
tabata bike intervals in the gym
rower interval sessions
used to run lots, now will just be running sprint intervals
KB complexs in the garden when i cant make the gym
note: although i do all of them, none are frequent or indeed regular

Tabatas are cardio... If you bodybuild you need to be defined as well and you need either good genes, good drugs or cardio for that at a decent size. Plus the general benefits of cardio to wellbeing in general are reason enough imo too. :023:

plus doing cardio improves your bodies abililty to buffer lactic acid, so that will benefit you, 20 mins of "cardio" however you do it is not going to halt your strength and mass gains.

Laying down were they?
yes and the flying bit was me when they threw me across the gym
Aside from what I do running about a rugby pitch training and playing I do:
Tabatas
Complexes
X-Country runs
Hill Sprints
Although I don't enjoy the last two I definately feel the benefit of doing them more so than tabatas and complexes. Try to walk a few times a week too. For my mind there's no point being a hulking mass if I can't chase down some scrote who's just tried to mug me etc.

agreed, but the next step after that is what to do with this scrote once one has catched up with it
I don't really unless you count the 7-8mins on the stationery bike before I train my lower body.
I know I should, and will start to soon, when I cut up. I'm gonna use a few methods ie.circuits, sprints, steady state cardio.

Do people do some cardio (hiit for example) straight after weights, or on seperate days?

At the moment I do three rounds of anaerobic circuits three times a week after lifting. Have also be doing tabata zercher squats and aerobic circuits recently.
Some were around 3.5 - 4 hours per week ( depending on AD's time keep :023: ) of spin classes early shift. Lates, normal CV machines 45min @ 175BPM than 10min of sprtin intervales.

1-2 hours of badminton
Try and fit 10 mins interval stuff in when I can after weights.
i do some circuits/complexes or run around a bit if i start to feel really unfit and usually surprise myself that i'm not that out of shape. But i know i should do more. I can usually only make it to the gym 3 times a week though and for me lifting is the priority.

You getting back to 100% again Esther?

I do, normally on my off days from lifting. Normally lasts anything from 30 to 60 mins of running, with intervals thrown in. Just for general well being tbh.
I do - pretty much walk every where i can get away with (weather permitting and nothing like Leeds to London ;)) and on my lunch hour at work I walk aimlessly around to cover 2-3 miles.
Try to do a short cardio session (10mins) before every session at the gym and try to do one 30 mins session once a week always on Cross Trainer on a interval program (Hill then Valley then hill etc normally channging every 2mins)
Do skipping - should do more as it really gets my fitness levels up.
I think i should do more but have seen my fitness increase greatly over last 3 months would love to be in the shape (fitness wise) when i was boxing 3 years ago. Thinking of going to a boxing gym near me once a week for my cardio.
I joined my old gym with Ky about a month back.
Have started running uphill for 20-30 minutes 2-3 times a week. I swimm too but that is more ****ing about than anything else. I think the grappler should be classed as cardio, it ****s me up good.
Only weights I'm doing are pinch grip stuff. Cannot be arsed to lift properly atm.
Still, I am enjoying it and I seem to be slowly gaining weight. I am eating lots and pretty clean now, and have cut out alcohol for the time being.

Yes - elbow is pretty okay now. I've just finished a 4 week cycle, had a deload and back to week 1 of a horrible, horrible routine that makes me feel nearly dead afterwards. Trying to get to as much BJJ and Judo as I can too.

I am something of a sadist as I actually enjoy cardio. Many don't. But you should always do some, it improves your all round fitness and helps burn up your body fat, which will help you improve muscular definition from your weight training.

I saw something sexy running up the street near me the other day, i caught my reflection whilst jogging :)
Re spoonmans enjoying cardio comment, i think the main thing is to find somethingyou enjoy doing for cario, if you hate running dont do it, i do mountain biking cos its fun and running gets me away from the house for 1/2 hour which i really need some nights. There are so many great ways of doing cardio everyone can enjoy unless your Rick Walla
And Grappling is definatly cardio in my book, its the only time its aceptable for 2 big hairy men to get sweaty together

Yeah, that's right. Mountain biking, skipping, swimming, running, jogging even walking. It all counts.
On a related note, I used to enjoy mountain biking myself. But my old bike broke a few years back and I never got around to getting another. Shame really. I used to like it.

Its an exspensive game, tbh the manufacturers are raping our wallets cos they know people will pay it, £3k for a bike is not abnormal and its just not justified

I love cardio and I get paid to do it, which is even better. Weight Training is my hobby.
Hell yeah I do, I love cardio.
When you want to accomplish what I want to then you gota learn to love it a guess.
Free style wrestling, sprints between sets of whatever exercise, complexes, sandbag runs with TGU's for rest...love it.
Have you read training for warriors or seen there dvd pike king?
