The Events
Event 1: Rolling Thunder Max Pull
This is straight forward, keep adding weight until you can't lock out the weight. Its more than likely you will be able to pull more with one hand than another. That doesnt matter, we are interested in the most you can pull in either hand.
Event 2: 2" Bar Double Overhand Hold For Max Time
Here you are going to attempt to hold at lockout a total weight (bar included) of 100kg with a double overhand grip for as long as possible. The bar can be lifted from a power rack, blocks, benches, whatever you want to reduce the range of motion as much as possible. No counting in your head!
Event 3: Olympic Bar Mixed Grip Hold For Max Time
Similar to the event above. Attempt to hold 190kg with a mixed grip at lock out for as long as possible. The bar can be lifted from a power rack, blocks, benches, whatever you want to reduce the range of motion as much as possible. No counting in your head!

You can put me down for event 2.
I can D/O 130kg on the 2" bar for 10seconds, but as the event is limited to 100kg you'll have to enter my time of 10seconds for now. I will be demolishing this come friday of course.
Event 3 i am going to do later on today.

expect my entry this week for the d/o thick bar
Ok, not sure what to make of this, i was hoping for 60+seconds with event 3, but i only got 41sec. That said, it was after thick bar curls.
Anyway, i have thrown down my cards, lets see what you chimps can do:
Robert: 190kg (oly bar) mixed grip static hold: 41sec.
I'm gonna RT on wed and try and beat 55kg (for time). My pinch has improved dramatically lately so I am hoping for carry over.

There should be some, but not sh1t loads. What are you pinching ATM and is that static or do you walk around with it?

Pinch is 15kg on a 3" block (plus the weight of the block and pin, both metal). One handed obviously and standing for 3x15 secs.

did u make the blocks?
did u make the blocks?
I wish! It's an IronMind block, very good but expensive.

Not bad at all. I would lower the time to 8-10seconds and walk around though. My plate pinching is like a X between a farmers walk and a 2 handed plate pinch. Though i always w/u doing single handed pinching. Have you trie using Oly plates (smooth side out obviously), 2x15kg per hand would be a good short term goal.
IM Rolling Thunder and and IM Pinch Block. Your like the spoilt kid at school who had all 4 of the ninja turtles when everyone else only had 1 or 2. :)

If I walk around the pin will swing everywhere and make it 10x as hard.
The plates in my gym are grooved on both sides so cant do it. Plus the diameter would be around 2" which would be easier.

2x15 is waaaaay harder than 1x15 on a 3" block. I can only just hold 2x15 on my right hand and can easily lift a 20kg plate off the ground on a 2.5" block and walk with it. Walking around with it is 10x more productive. Its harder, but thats the point.

Mike's Rolling Thunder entry - 65kg's.
I pulled this after a couple of other grip ex's so should have done better. An extra 1.25+ would have been possible if fresh.
Edit: This makes me joint top :041: . If we arrange the entries alphabetically I'm top. GO ME!
Alex, please dont enter yet so I can enjoy 1st place for a while :D .

190KG!! I'll be happy to get that off the floor let alone hold it for any leaght of time. ( I'll give it go next week and post the resalt if I can still type)
"Rolling Thunder" Am I right in thinking it the same as Ram Van Dam's move in the WWE? there no way the gym floor could take it plus I send mouth's in tracking (if it the same problemly try that one late Friday night after the pub shut. The pain will not be as bad)

The 190 can be lifted from benches, or blocks, it doesnt have to be lifted from the floor.
I'll introduce you to rolling thunder next time I see you.

no need, with 20s on blocks stacked high you wont have to pull the bar far, or get two benches and have the plates resting on them.
190x26 sec. static hold.
My grip was fine, but my callouses were in a world of pain, so I gave up... :022:
The 190kg static hold is the only one I would be able to do. I'll give it a go soon..

Sorry dawg, but what's an iron mind hole, and coming to think of it, what's a inch dumbell train?
BengDogg
23-01-2005, 19:53
Iron mind make a device called hole it up which the idea is to train you for the homas inch dumbbell which is 176lbs (this is an old dumbbell yknow the 2 big blobs type so the balance isnt as perfect as modern dbs) of db with a 2 1/2" handle, I created my own version of said device and called it Bengdogg's inch dumbbell trainer. harder than a rolling thunder but similar concept. I have sold a few to people on theis board and it would be nice to have a comp catorgory for that. click the link in my sig to see pics of it
Yeah, event 4 should be Doggs 2.5" RT killer. I got one and have no comp to enter :(
Dog, how much inc p&p for the inch db. (i'm a poet :D )
Ahh, you mean the Holle inch trainer (The Holle brothers). They only live 2 miles from me, and my wife, who is a teacher, taught Nathan, the youngest.

almost missed this thread!
Put down my RT PB:
67.5kg
and why on earth have you chosen to do the olympic bar hold with 190kg??? I can honestly say i've never tried, did 220kg holds for 13 seconds on saturday - used to do longer, so my grip is not what it used to be...
Could my RT entry be deleted please.
190kg is a bit on the light side for seasoned grip monkies like us mate, but the comp is set so that everyone can have a go.

190kg static hold for 1min 17secs.
OK, so I lied it was just 17secs but I wanted to feel good about myself for a bit. I know that's way behind some of you monkeys but as my grip was my major weak point a few months ago I'm quite happy with this. Not that it's great now, but a damn lot better than it was. I'll try again on Thursday and whips 17secs' ass off.

Can soemone add my time to Event 2. please?
Also, I would like to see another event added. Index finger and thumb deadlifts on a thick bar, and possibley double overhand (but not hook grip) deadlifts on an oly bar.... Thoughts?
Personally i'd like to keep it to fairly common events. So neigh to the finger -thumb thingy, but yes to the doh oly dl.
Also how about some more grip events such as plate pinching for max weight, using 2 standard oly 10kg plates with bar through the middle to add extra weight but keeping the same gripping width.
Or how about 1 arm DL with either oly or 2" bar, or maybe vertical bar DL.

Hello
I tried the RT and got 65kg ok, 67.5kg just and 70kg off the ground but not locked out. That is the weight of the plates only, are you including the weight of the RT?
I also tried the 190kg on the oly bar after my deadlift session and RT attempts so unfortunately my grip was a bit shot but i got somwhere between 64-66 seconds, i was loosing focus a bit! :030:
I will have a go at the 2" bar over the weekend, just got to give my hands a chance to recover!

Event 1: 68.75kg.
I was unsure if training with a 2" bar inpove grip now I'm convivced they do the job.
