Due to RDL tonite as part of legs session. havent done these before. i have checked up on a few sites. just wanting to make sure.

are these basically the same movement as SLDL but with different bar positioning; i.e. away from the body as opposed to close to the body?

any tips would be appreciated.

cheers

In my brain RDLs and SLDLs are the same beast. I keep the bar close to me and push my arse back as far as I can, thats it. Pushing the bar out in front scares the poop out of me.

RDL's are eccentric > concentric, like a squat. You unrack the bar then go down. SLDL's are a deadlift, you pick the bar up from the floor. SLDL's are concentric > eccentric. So it depends what you want. Also, with RDL's you can't/don't go all the way down to the floor.

Thats my take anyways.

cheers. when i've done SLDL in the past i,ve took the weight off the rack and stepped away with it to do the set. also i only get as low as comfy, without back rounding which is probably about just past my knees to mid-shin point.

do you pick the weight up off the floor for every rep - as in DEAD lift? or once its in your sweaty gorilla palms you keep it off the floor?

i may be wrong - hope not. but i always do SLDL same as i do goodmornings. the only difference is where the weight is positioned.

this is how i see it

when u do GMs you keep a neutral/arched spine
when u do squats you keep a neutral/arched spine
when you deadlifts you keep a neutral/arched spine

why do you do that?

because the spine is in a much more stable position and is less vulnerable to injury

so why stiff leg deadlift something off the floor which in 9 out of 10 people will require them to round their back and elevate the injury potential.

thats my thought on the matter anyway

romanian deadlift and stiff leg deadlift have the same meaning in my 'secret book of exercises'

Try sumo SLDL's if you want the bar to touch the floor after every rep while maintaining your arch.
