Well, it had it's ups and it's downs, I came away at first somewhat disappointed with how it went, but analyzing things on the drive home decided I basically achieved everything I could have hoped to really.

Got there far too early so went and sat in a pub car park and attempted to stuff my face, mentally not feeling too nervous but the old tell tale need to piss every five minutes and inablity to stomach food told another story...

Weighed in at 94.85kg IIRC fully clothed.

120kg (plate weight) Viking press - 2 reps, though I ****ed my first attempt and missed it cos I didn't get my head through quick enough, 8th out of 10, two behind me didn't get any reps, winner got 14 I think.

230kg Deadlift - 0 reps. Well, first it was going to be 200kg thickbar, then car DL, ended up being 230 on a oly bar, which was just never going to happen for me, didn't even get close, 10th, every other **** pulled it, winner got 12 I think.

Medley, 195kg duckwalk 10m ish then 120kg gas cylinder farmers 10m ish - This was also changed at the last minute from wheelbarrow to farmers, which had me walking around in a huff tbh as I figured I had no chance in getting the ****ing faremers up. As it happened I was almost right, but not quite, just about dragged the bastards up and completed the whole thing in 38.something seconds with no drops, thank **** cos I wouldn;t have gotten 'em up again. 9th out of 10, chap behind me had a couple drops and didn't quite make the distance, winner did it in 16.something, ****ing fast.

400kg Tyre - Well this is where I ****ed up, was wearing shitty brand new seven quid trainers, and every time I got the ****ing tyre up to my knee and put enough drive into it to turn it over my feet slipped on the dusty floor, gay gay gay. It was also a very hard tyre I must admit, bastard to grip, but were it not for the shoes I would have three or four flips instead of the one I got. Only other guy in trainers had the same problem, ended up joint last with him, though I guess I would actually have gotten 9th cos he was heavier.

Stones, 110 to ridiculous, 120 and 130 to 54", 140 and 160 to 48" - Wasn't to be, platform was absurdly high, well over five foot, stone felt like a pebble coming off the floor, made three attempts but there was no chance tbh, pissed me off because I know I could have done the second and third stones at least, but there we are. Joint last with two others who didn't get the first, can't remember of it was one or two people that got them all.

Overall I think I was 9th out of 10, possibly 8th but I'm fairly sure 9th.

Can't really be pissed off with the DL or stones as to put it bluntly, I can't do either, so I'll just be pissed off at Col instead for changing half the events to shit I suck at, lol. And can't complain about being beaten by everyone, as they were all better than me. Infact there were some very impressive athletes there. Tyre was stupid though, I had climbing shoes in the boot of my car, oh well you live and learn.

Met some great people, got a big PR in the farmers even if it did immedieately feel like I'd torn both traps clean off the bone. Basically had good fun, already looking forward to my next comp, which thankfully should be a ****ing site easier than this was, lol.

There was also some chick there in the Women's comp, ex oly champion, 170kg c+j!!!!!

Big thanks to Alex for coming and supporting me on the day, and filming everything, vid to follow at some point...

sounds like a good day mate, you live and learn about equipment though. 120 farmers sounds hard, is that in each hand!? (guessing not)
any pics or vids of yourself or others? stones sound gay, basically a press to get it to the height im guessing? at least you didnt come last mate, which is ****ing awsome for a first compo especially at a qualifier !!!!

Of course it's in each hand.
Like I say Alex filmed my efforts, didn't get any pics sadly as I left my camera at the training groud last week.
Yeah you basically had to press the stone, or shoulder it, or ****ing jump shot the thing like one **** did!

He didn't mention the travesty of the sexual comments he was making about this woman that had a farmers daughter/miss piggy look about her, which really deserves mockery

And in seriousness, well done for competing.Just taking part takes guts,a lot of people would not even consider doing what you have done, especially with all the hard work, training and dedication that you have been putting into this.Kudos to you.Just turning up took guts, good work.

Thanks, Tone. I definitely feel like the hard bit's out of the way now, first comp, hardest one I'll be doing for a while, and I'm really fired up and ready for the rest without having to worry about first time nerves.

And yeah, was really good to have Alex there, very much appreciated that!

Well, I went because:

- Tim came and helped me out at my first comp
- It is a shit feeling to be competing with no back-up/team
- It's an interesting day out
- Supporting each other is what forums like this should be about.

It was a cool day, I think I'll have a go myself for a laugh in the summer.

Vid of the medley and the one flip I got with the tyre, decided not to post the rest as tbh it makes me look a bit shit, lol.

Looking thick Tim. Those two events looked devishly difficult grip wise. I was envisioning the comp to be one of those big outdoor type events like strongman on TV. Not stuffed into some school gym. Many congrats.

Looking fat Tim.

I thought so too.....

You were so ruined after the medley.....although you obviously weren't all there at the start of the comp judging by the obsession with that girl...

Chexellent!

Don't blame you on the vid, keep it to the ones where you look ****ing cool :D

Have to say that once those farmers were up you made it look really easy, and you pwned that tyre. Next comp should be very, very interesting... :)

Like everyone has said before, well done mate. Got to start somewhere and experience counts for a lot in the end.

Mark, grip wasn't too much of a problem on the farmers, it was getting the ****ers up I struggled with, duckwalk was easy grip wise. Tyre was a ****er to grip though, no lip to get your hands under so you had to kind of shoulder it up a bit first to try and slide your hands under. Nah it wasn't a big outdoor event, most of the crowd were athletes, wasn't publicised or anything. That is no school gym though, it's Oli Thompson's training yard, awesome facility, everything you could possibly want in a Strongman ground

Alex, you are not wrong, that medley ****ed me, felt proper whitey crashed out on the floor watching everyone else...

Tez, that does not look easy, I nearly fold in half near the end if you look closely, you should have seen some of the fast guys doing it..
Next comp I am going to WAR!

Cheers Neil, yeah and I intend to get plenty of that over the next few months...

Well done Tim, takes balls to compete - especially in the company you were in. Will only make you better equipped to own your next strongman outing.

230kg is a fair old weight to deadlift for reps, it 500 odd lbs off the top of my head so the guy who did 14 reps must of been smoking, also re the atlas stone i noticed when i watched wsm that some of the shorter guys (who are still 6'ers) struggle to reach the 1st few, the plinth is basically as high as them.

Cheers guys,

Jonny, not sure mate, Martin Jones won it I think, John someone was doing pretty well, Marvin something, Paul Cater was there, that's about all the names I remember. Hopefully Colin will post the full results up on SDF soon.
