what % of my 1rm do you think i should do if im doing 8 singles?

My 1rm is 150 and so I was thinking of starting with 130 which I think will be hard work but do-able... do you think thats ok?

Anything above 80% is good. 0.8x150=120. So anything higher than that is fine. I would suggest starting at 125 and going from there.

i think 125 is going to be too easy... i did 10 straight reps of 120 when my 1rm was 145 remember, thanks tho i think i'll go for 130

It don't matter too much, providing you don't go lower than 80%.

Never really done singles myself, so I have two newbie questions:

1.why 8 singles? why not 10 or 6, what made you choose 8?
2. in what weight increments do you move up as you go? if 150 is your max and you start at 130, I'm assuming that you're doing doing roughly 5 or 6 sets at 150 .. do I have that right?

ask help why lol, he suggested it in a routine he gave me

i'll be doing 8 singles all at the same weight

I see .. so using 130 as a starting warm-up weight then.
Asking because I'm a good way through Dinosaur Training and it's inspired me to maybe switch from my 3x3 mode on deads (knee permitting).

i think 8 sub maximal deads is a good number. Its like doing 3x3 or similar

i tihnk his 1RM is 150kg so if he starts with that, he will be doing 150kg for 8 singles in about 8 weeks or so easily.

its a good way to get some volume and practice at DLs

my finding is that, as I'm increasing the weight, my form starts to go even though my body can handle it. not the best description, but you know what I mean.

I also use 8 "singles" when training "Westside" straight after box squats.

I use 50% of my max dead and then just do 8 speed singles.

Helps with deadlift form whilst I'm not directly training my deadlift.. If that makes sense..!

LOL i have thought about it before... when I dropped deadlifts in favour for squatting twice a week :)
