View Full Version : Phones
As my good lady wife has just taken delivery of my new mobile phone, I'd just thought I'd ask what phones do people have..?
The phone that I've just got is a Sony Ericsson K500i, camera, MP3, video camera etc etc..
Not as good as it's bigger brother the K700i but good enough for what I need. It's only £114.99 delivered on Orange pay as you go anyway so quite a bargain (although I'm sure it will go down again knowing my luck..!!).
The phone I currently have is a Sagem MYX6 which I've had for nearly a year and is a bloody good phone.
The reason I have camera phones is so that I can take pictures of my little boy. He likes looking at the pictures on the phone as well and always points to himself.. He's 2 years old and keeps connecting to WAP which he thinks is very amusing...

sorry but i think mobile phones are extremely overrated
i would never spend £115 on a telephone ( i think once i spent 90 quid years ago... never again)
i bought my current phone off a friend for a tenner and it does the job fine.
IMO if you want to take pictures get a digital camera... if you want to use the internet use it... dont pay stupid money to take sub-standrard photos and to surf the internet at ridiculous rates.
i also think phone calls and text messages are severely overpriced
all IMO of course and no offence intended to you if thats what you want to spend your money on :)

No probs, each to their own mate...
The reason I use my mobile so much for taking pictures is because it's so portable. I always have it in my pocket, easy to use when out and about with my son..
I have a digital camera, video camera and free broadband from work..
They all get used..
The reason it's £115 is because it's pay as you go. I've never had a contract as I don't use it enough to warrant one.
I transfer the pics to pc and then send them or print them. The quality is good enough to print.
Anyway each to their own..
Cheers

I got a Nokia 7600i, from 3 network. 500 minutes any time any network and 50 texts free a month for 35 quid - good enough for me

Got full internet access etc , ( all free coz i'm ripping off o2 :018: )
You'd be surprised how handy it can be to have the proper internet in your pocket !

Matt, can you expand on the ripping O2 bit off...?
I found a link today to get free O2 simcards..
I ordered four as that's the maximum amount per household..

I'll PM you the details - any chance of that link?
I absolutely hate being contacted, by anyone, so I don't have a mobile. I used to have one but got sick of people ringing me, so threw it out of the car window.
I someone wants to get hold of me, they come and see me in person. And vis versa.

Done mate..

I need mine for work and the camera for the same reason, Its a motorola v525 but i tweaked it to run the v600 software so now it is a v600 in a v525 case ;) Easy when ya know how, Oh yeah it cost me nuthing and nor does my calls
Any chance of getting in on how to get free calls? You lot are some pretty clever people! Why ain't I that clever!

I have a phone but only for people to contact me... not the other way around. I don't even like that if i'm honest. I have bought credit only once in nearly 3 years and that was only when I met my woman.
She's not that bad with her phone if i'm honest, but it drives me fcuking mental when we are having a conversation and she'll just drop it because her mother is on the phone for the 20th time that morning!!! And if she doesn't answer her mum sends nasty texts!!!
I feel they are an invasion of privacy above anything else... it's like someone just EXPECTING to come into your private world...your home... I think it is rude in a way.
Saying that I phone other people all the time :D
yes and that!!!
'oh ive got a new phone I MUST play every ringtone I have while I am sat on the bus'

Damn those school kids and their ring tones.
The old folks are worse because when their phone rings it takes them about half an hour to find it in their bags and then another half an hour to work out how to answer it, all the while it ringing louder and louder.....arrrrrrrrrrgh.....
i hate the general public
thats a good attitude cheggers
i hate everyone too

Stubob -
one thing I should mention on that "fix" is that sometimes it takes a couple of tries to connect - but once you are sure you are getting it free (make sure it is working first ! ) you can leave GPRS connected anyway

A Sagem myV-55 that can't send messages and I've not been bothered enough to take it back to get fixed.
I ****ing hate mobiles. Haven't owned one for years.
I'll probably get one when I get to the UK though, so my dear mum can call me. :D

I don't get this "I hate mobiles" thing? - Phones are a tool of everyday life for me & my previous job would have been impossible without one - and I sure as hell wouldn't want to try doing any kind of "away from base" work without a mobile ! Especially when you are self employed
having a "network" of mobiles has also made it a lot easier to keep tabs on where my family are too (with two teenage girls & a shopaholic wife this is important )
I suppose you don't need one if you have little or no responsibility - but that's not many of us these days !
Having said that - I do get annoyed when people sit on the bus yakking away or texting non stop - But that is down to the person , not the phone !
If a chav throws a brick through your window - do you blame the chav or the brick ?
I have nothing against people or telephones who use it for work related. I am talking about when people constantly telephone/text each other mindless bullshit that doesn't need to be said, or could be said when they are going to see them in 10 minutes time!!!!!
Matt, I don't have kids and stuff to worry about. I hate being out for dinner or something and have people texting me and shit.
I have a landline, so people can leave and message and I can call them back at my leisure. :)
Matt, I have no kids, but I am engaged and I did until very recently own my own house, and business - so don't be pedantic about responsibiltiy. I don't like mobiles because I don't like being constantly badgerd by people, and the annoying "ring tones." Other than that, live and let live!

Cheers Matt..
Bloody hell I've opened a can of worms here haven't I...???
Fair enough people dont like phones..
I like gadgets and I have to say that my new phone is bloody quality.. Took some video of my little boy this morning..haha, very funny ..
I agree with ring tones though, I normally have mine on silent and vibrate so that it's not distracting or annoying to others. Also I don't really like talking on my mobile in front of other as I think it's rude.
I do have to have a phone for work purposes though and it has to be on 24hrs a day. The work phone that we have is on T-Mobile which is completely shiite in my area so I simply divert the calls to my mobile.
Cheers

When im not at work and at home with the mrs i dont bother with mine, but i totally agree that for my particular work and occasionally keeping tabs they are important, I hardly make personal calls but it is there just incase. Recently i was really glad i had it, i wont go into details but family shit that i needed to be there for.
