When people talk about ab training its pretty much limited to crunches, sit ups, leg raises and side bends. I rarely see people mentioning rotation exercises.

Why is that?

They're the most common, the ones we all know of. My repertoire is the ones you've mentioned plus ab pull-downs and hanging pikes although I dont use half of them anymore.

Crunches are very common because they are in the magazine routines, apparently.

Edit: OOPS, forgot to vote: Never.

I do Russian twists, and high too low cable twist things (like hacking at a tree with an axe)

this is not a critisim but a question, i assume u do situps or sidebends, why them over a twisting exercise? do u feel that the previously mentioned exercises give you more benefit for your powerlifts?

basically any exercise where you twist your torso

i do standing ab pull downs most of the time

some times sit-ups

sometimes suitcase DLs

maybe side bends or a bending varient

situps or ab pulldowns are good as they use the hip flexors a lot

twisting exercises would be better if i was a fighter or something. As a PLer most of my core work is static or on one plane at the most. suitcase DLs are the closest i could get really

Also, twisting exercises look gay, they are taxing enough to stimulate hypertrophy and i dont have access to a gay ass cable machine

yeah i agree with all of that, well apart from last bit.

I think powerlifting is one of few activities where rotation training isnt of benefit.

As for that last point you'd probably find that if you executed an rotary exercise properly you wouldnt be able to breath the next day.

Woodchops [as in real ones], Russains and the occasional SCDL. Do 1 arm snatches count?

EDIT: I voted occasionally.

Full contact twists helped thicken up my sides when I started training but my gym doesn't have any hard corners to do them. I think they'd be one of the best weight exercises for developing punching power.

full contact twists are a great exercise, good for scaring the biceps brigade too

in the past i've done hanging knee raises to the side - does that count?

PikeKing

hmmm...half, depends how you were doing them.

Probably more of a side bend

Soemtimes, when I am heavily drunk, I find myself coiled up in a ball in random parts of the UK. Also, does leaning over a bar count, if your standing side on?

how does leaning (bending) sideways become twisting?

Full contact twists? Corners? Scaring the biceps brigade? I'm in!
I just need someone to explain what they are, please.
