View Full Version : Numb Fingers
The little finger and the finger next to it on my left hand have been a little numb for about a week now. I thought nothing of it initially, hoping it would pass, but today it actually affected my grip. I couldn't even hold a 32.5kg dumbbell in my left hand to complete a set of side bends.
Any ideas what could be going on?

Wouldn't I have it on both hands though?
Do you think it's worth making an appointment to see a doctor?

How would postural problems make the fingers numb? I don't really know much about this stuff :(

well think of posture and how it effects the joints, if your posture is out of whack your joints will not be sitting how they should be, this can reduce the amount of space in the joint. You can get pressure on nerves, muscle inhibition and muscle over use
or think of it like something mechanical, made of metal, if the moving parts are loose or misaligned, you get increased wear and tear and reduced performance (possibly)
its impossible to really help much more Mark, stretch your Lats, Pecs, Bis & Tris, Traps, Neck and anything else on your upper body, if you are unsure how I'm sure there are some good links in the injury support forum
I went to the doctor today. He seemed shocked by the fact that I had callouses on my hands, and said that the numbness is probably related to them and that I should use gloves to lift. I've been referred to a neurologist to make sure nothing more serious is going on though.
I'm going to have to stop heavy pulling for a while to see if the numbness subsides. I guess I should look into getting some gloves, but the ones I've seen around are too thick and bulky. I need something thinner. Any ideas?

That's what I thought. I did ask him to explain, but he didn't. How does a callous make your fingers go numb? I don't know, I'm not a doctor!
i dont think its possible? i may well be wrong tho as im not a scientist or a doctor but how the fcuk can a small build of skin EXTERNALLY make your fingers go numb?
change your doctor.

He was saying something about it growing down into the hand, not just as an outward bump... Something about tendons too.

So you have bad posture and a retarded doctor. Good stuff.

****ing hell, this is why I haven't been to a doctor for over 15 years. They really don't know shit about much except how to write prescriptions for antibiotics and antidepressants. :012:

LOL so now callouses are tumours dancingban cool i have 10 tumours
Hmm... I think the doctor was talking shit to be honest. I was doing some reading today, and it looks like the problem is with the ulnar nerve. Only one side of my ring finger is numb, and the pinky, which is apparently typical of ulnar nerve problems. Likely to be a problem at the elbow apparently.
As the callous thing is likely to be bullshit, at least I don't have to wear gloves! I hate the things.
^^ above is a possiblility, though ulnar neuritis more commonly manifests as shooting nerve pain rather than numbness. Certainly nothing to do with caluses.
Could well be something more along the lines of what Pk was suggesting IMO, i.e that lousy posture is casuing some compression or irritation of nerves coming from (possibly) the thoracic spine area as thats where the nerves which travel down your arms insert.
However as Monsieur Hardcore Training loves to spout, remote diagnosis is a fairly pointless excersise.
