Ninjitsu.
I am starting off at the bottom :( but it should be bally good fun! Makesa change from Jiu Jitsu. I love MA, everyone knew I couldn't stay away for long.

Doing it for fun or to actually learn?
Well, I have a very high combat proficiency already, and I hear there is not much call for dark hands these days, so ATM, its just for fun.
But if Jiu Jitsu was anything to go by, I will be completly obsessed with it within weeks, and a fully fledged ninja by this time next year :)
You bought any smoke bombs yet? :002:
I'm only joking mate. All amrtial arts are great. I learn something from all of them. The only thign I am lacking in is grappling skills. I have a mate who is a bjj instructor and i'm thingking of traning in that.
What did you think of Ju Jitsu Rob? Any good in your opinion?
i want to take up a martial art next year, i would do it now, but the shithole i live in with only 5 residents and a bike shed doesnt have a martial arts class

Yeah Robert (and anyone else with solid MA knowledge), I'd be interested in hearing what form you prefer. I've toyed with the idea of learning for a couple of years, but haven't committed yet. Main reason is that I have no idea what route to take (thinking self-defense, but I'd also like to be able to maim someone with my bare hands, truth be told) and how would I fit it into regular weight training.

I think rob enjoys the contact with other men aspect of MA, and when he's a ninja he will be able to sneak up on them on moor park !!
LOl, just kidding robert :027: :027: :027:

JJ rules. I studied traditional, not BJJ. But that will suit you fine I would guess.

Train yourself. I did that for 2 years.

Train yourself? What from books?

13th Dan? In what? The president of the World JJ federation is only a bloody 9th Dan. My Sifu is one of the most highly respected in the UK, indeed, the world, and he is only a 6th Dan
Lastly, Dans mean sh1t all. I am only a Green belt JJ, but I am still a registerd instructor and in past comps have wiped the floor with many 1-3Dans.
In JJ, the sylabus past green belt is pointless crap. Why would I try a crossblock+reverse figure 4 arm lock combo if you threw a punch when I coud just side step you and punch you in the neck?

If you are tall, TKD is a good idea.
If you are short, boxing, wing chun, or mauy thai are all good.
No matter what size you are, some form of grappling is also very good, JJ, vale tudo and krav maga are the weapons of choice there.
Train yourself? What from books?
Yes. If you ahve amate that is also interested in learning, you can learn alot form books and freestyle sparring. A video cam is also a plus.

If you said that to an instructor they would laugh at you. It's like trying to become a premiereship football player by playing spot on the wall with a mate.
I am an instructor, and I am not laughing. Its how I learn't the first 2 syllabus [white and yellow]. At that point the only "club" in the area was utter sh1te. You will learn more from actually fighting someone than you will from bowing down to some power mad peado with no formal qualifications donning a Gi that would tear in the tumble dryer and shouting "HIYA."
Learning is fine on your own if you cannot get to a decent academy. That is not to suggest it is better or even equal to PROPER instruction.

Exactly.
Exactly.
Cheggers cannot get to a decent academy. So in this instance, it ismy opinion, that he should train himself.

You could ring him and ask him

Second one down - Keith Porter
I know he is pretty well respected in MA circles - all the other local MA people tend to "bitch" about each other around here but there is a unified respect fior him - He spends a lot of time in japan training with the Grandmaster
& lastly - Punch me in the neck & I'll burn your house down , then sit outside in a land rover and run you over when you emerge in your Pyjamas

Rob i've told you before...stop sucking you own cock...its not nice!

Also, I agre with the politics in MA. Its worse than BBing ATM.
