does anyone actually notice any difference in the rate of size gains when they use a bodybuilding routine as opposed to a strength one?

or have you found the difference negligable?

personally ive never noticed anything over than a pump that lasts for an hour or two max, but then i have never done a bodybuilding routine for a lengthy period

i find i grow more on a BB, generally that is, and quicker. for obvious reasons.

things is since i have basically been lifting heavy weights (relative to me) for most of my training, if i stop training for a while i dont lose too much size which i put down to myofib gains.

i have seen others, who when they stop lifting for a bit, say 2 weeks, lose some significant visual gains. they generally are pumpers with a weak base in the first place, i.e. very little myofrib hypertrophy.

Is that a serious question?

Why would bodybuilders train the way they do if powerlifting would produce the same size, bodybuilders are in general much bigger than powerlifters.

bodybuilders arent bigger than powerlifters, just prettier. the illusion of size is created by low bodyfat and synthol in top bodybuilders IMO (of course they are still massive but you get what im saying)

i am asking for personal experiences as to wether people have actually noticed much difference when changing routines

Being grumpy rules, especially at such a young age, just think of what you could become by the time your 30 :D

lol, or 60, im going to be the best old man ever

so you have actually noticed a big difference in size gains or is it only a small difference? this is more what im trying to get at really, not does it work or not

Well, I put on 10kg in **** all time, and yes some of it is on my belly. Strangely enough my bench press went up from 85kg to 110kg without training it?

well i have certainly noticed more gains from my recent training tho, i'm sure part of it is a bit of permanent pump, it could also be that its radically different to how i have train for the last 2-3 years.

if i could i would do a mixture of what i'm doing now and did in the past

sounds like a good idea to maximise hypertrophy by stimulating both types i suppose

yeah, a ME type exercise, then a back off set or 2, then some more exercises in the 6-15 rep range

i jsut finished a backwork (see my journal)
if i had the choice tho i would of prefered to of done something like this:
Rack Pull, 6-8 sets pyramiding weight up, reps down, then take 20% off the final weight (about 4 reps worth) then go far as many reps as poss, after rest, not a dropset
Pull ups 30 reps
T-bar Rows 4 sets in the 8-15 reps range
BB Curls
Hammer Curls

Tough one, in my early days I did BB stuff, all sets would be at least 8 reps, loads of iso's, etc, but never used to weigh myself or measure so not sure how well I did. Then I started doing some HIT stuff for a while which also seemed to be going well, then I had a lay off of about 2 years.
Since I've been on this board I decided to cut out the iso, stick to compound movements and start doing some PL stuff, but not get too anal about it as I doubt I'd ever compete. Basically on the squats and DL I do less reps and aim at shifting more weight, for a strength exercise. All of the other compound movements I do 8 reps, so the rep range is more in the BB range, but as I still keep it heavy enough (for me) and stick to good compound exercises I think I am doing a mix between the two styles.
I'd say I was possibly at my biggest mass wise whilst training this way (although it's difficult to think back to when I was doing HIT & shit), around september time, although I've had trouble with consistency since.

I agree with block though, since doing more strength stuff if I stop for a while, generally my mass doesn't drop as much.

That's my 2p worth anyway!!

I loose less size and weight when cutting now that i my traning is more "functional strength" than BBer as it was years ago as it's less dependant on water and glycogen.

I've grown more PLing than when I used to BB, however I never used to DL or Squat as a BBer or base my training round compounds - I've also got a much greater knowlede of programming and diet now compared with when I used to BB. Hard to say really as If I had the knowledge I do now 5years ago things would be different.
