somehow, i knew "dont wear them" was coming! the manly point does it for me though, i'm going to buy some febreeze :)
i love the smell of old boxing gloves.
smells like....victory.
If you still interested:
1.open them out to dry and air after each session. That will help
2.Anti-bacterial Febreeze.Then air dry them.
3.Cedar chips or 'glove dogs' will help with the smell.
4.Put them in the freezer as it kills off the bacteria that cause nasty niffs.

cool. thanks for the tips!
Anyone got any recommendations for some gloves?
We have a bag that I wouldn't mind playing around with.
my recommendation is "dont get mitts"
You work harder with some 14oz'ers and stand less chance of hurting your wrists.

depends what you want, if its just fitness abd little else, big gloves and wraps are what i want, that way you can punch badly and hurt your hands/wrists less.
if you want to actually become a good puncher lighter gloves are gonna be better, nothing like spraining your wrist to learn good technique
(note to self: learn good left hook technique)

then go for bigger gloves, still see if u can get someone to go through the basics with you though, you'll get mroe out of it
My reasoning would be,if you are going to do loads and loads of rounds in a session and you are interested in fighting Muay thai/boxing or similar I would suggest wearing larger bag gloves with wraps for several reasons...
1.For conditionning,it might not seem too bad but if you do say 10 rounds of 3mins on a bag holding what roughly equates to 1lb in weight and using this in a dynamic fashion(punching!) your arms ,shoulders ,back and cardio(can I say that word here?) will be aware of it.
2.Again if you are training to fight in the ring you will need to protect your hands and it makes sense to train how you fight. Also it helps in the conditionning and keeping your guard up.
3.If your interest is more into the street application I would be inclined to advocate using lighter gloves as this helps teach better technique that you might 'get away with' in bigger gloves. You condition your wrists and hands better especially as you may be hitting someone on the jaw/nose/body /whatever.If you hit someone on the skull top with a bare hand however, you are looking to break your hand or wrist...(think Tyson)Plus its nice to have the confidence that you can hit something hard with a barefist...
4.Regards the 'playing around with a bag'(have you mentionned this to your wife BTW?) I'd be inclined to wear heavy gloves again as you will probably not have anyone there to correct your form and the chance of doing yourself a mischief/injury is reduced.
Also bear in mind that the foam/padding used is often different in boxing gloves to heavy bag gloves. The foam in bag gloves tends to be denser in order to protect your hands and wrists. The foam in boxing gloves tends to be(in theory )kinder to your opponent/sparring partner at least this is the case in the heavier weight boxing gloves...plus this also changes again as to whether you are using what they refer to as 'Mexican' style boxing gloves as these have a reputation of being VERY hard hitting at the lower weights.
Oh and Thai boxing gloves have a thumb position different from normal gloves to facilitate clinching and kneeing...
then go for bigger gloves, still see if u can get someone to go through the basics with you though, you'll get mroe out of it
I did boxing training for about a year in my teens, should be alright...

cardio(can I say that word here?)
you can but there is only a limited number of times the forum software will allow it before the database deletes itself
Hmm...maybe thats why some guys can't post in their journals, the system is revolting after having the C word used?
