I've just completed a set of 20 rep squats but this post isn't looking for compliments. It's to ask if anyone talks to themselves when training?

The last set I did I started couting out aloud when I got to 15 reps, almost shouting. This session was harder and I starting saying stuff like easy rep from the third rep and repeated on every rep, after 10 reps I was complimenting myself on being halfway there and by 15 I was saying home and dry.

If I hadn't have done this no doubt negative thoughts would have popped into my head, like it's too heavy, you're gonna hurt yourself and stuff and I may not have been able to finish the 20.

Does anyone else talk to themselves when training?

Glad I train at home :023:

Don't really talk to myself. Shout and growl sometimes, but not much talking going on in my gym.

Again, good job I train at home.

I talk to myself in my mind, mostly to try and keep the negative thoughts out as I find they can be very dangerous and are more influential than most people think... Do not underestimate teh phe4r!111!! :firedevil

as i plan a lot of what im doing, i just do whats planned, doesnt require that much winding up, and if its hurting i just think that its good and i will become stronger. you have to ask yourself why are you doing it, where do you want to be. i also try to leave the big wind ups till max out day anyway. takes a lot outta me. last time i let out a big roar was at the mt meet up lol, but other than im fairly calm. i know what i need to do and thats enough for me :023:

I talk to myself all the time lol. When I'm training I mainly talk in my head with the odd growl every now and then.

I'm a Geordie lass too - grew up in Gateshead.

oh, and self motivation for me:
A) can be very hard
B) is incredibly important- the psyche is a massive part of my game
C) mostly grunts, growls, and threatening myself under my breath for me, though on big/important sets, a few really hard slaps in the face and some ammonia salts do it for me.

Yeah i tell my self to cmon!!! Fukin easy! Etc, i get pretty moody when i train i seem to find if i get pissed off im a lot more focused and explosive, a lil bit of ephadrine generally helps me get in a foul mood where i have too much energy so i take that before i train then wait for it to kickin which is only a 10 mins or so, but yeah im a very different person in the gym to when im normal again, but yknow i can switch it off and on in an instant so its cool, between sets of mp's today i was bottle feeding my baby and playing with toys to keep him happy then back into the rack and fire up the agression

i generally only need motivation to leave my house and walk the 15mins or so to the gym. once im in the gym i'm cool. my motivation is in the form of just making sure i have eaten well before training.

HOWEVER - i will be moving to a new flat soon which has 2 - yes two - gyms directly opposite, less than 60seconds from my living room to the gym. but i have paid 6 months at the gym that is about 25mins away. :(
