Bought myself some chucks today, for those that don't know Converese all star chuck taylors are baseball shoes which have basically been adopted by the weightliftig community as the ultimate cheap training shoe, they are great beacuse....

they have flat soles instead of rising up at the heel and toe like running shoes, making them easier on your arches

they are very low (feels like i'm only a centimetre or so off the floor) so great for deadlifting in

they're canvas so they're sturdier than trainers, and if you get the high top boot style ones they also give you ankle support for those who squat wide stance or sumo DL

They're fairly solid so you won't lose as much force to the cushioning

and they cost about 25 quid, get some

Yup yup. Bollocks to buying a pair of £100.00 'powerlifting shoes' when you get cheap Chuck T's at any high street in the UK. If you're properly skint and can't fork out £25.00 for a pair, you can get a pair of generic Converse imitations for a tenner or less - Just check that they'll do the same job (low, flat heel, minimal cushioning etc.).

Only people these kind of shoes might not be ideal for are narrow stance squatters, who often prefer a shoe with a heel.

aye, which is me, but that Czech site won't take my money and the new addidas ironworks are just too damn ugly to justify eighty quid, so i thought i'd get these for the time being

Yeah. I'm squatting narrow atm and I'm wearing a pair of ten quid Chuck wannabees. Not really that much of a problem tbh, but some guys prefer their heels.

Yeah, powerlifting.cz won't take cards. You could pay by cheque, money order or direct bank transfer methinks, but it's a bit of a pain in the arse not taking plastic.

I can squat ok without heels but i had a go with my heels raised and it feels so natural, piece of piss to get atg with good form, i guess it's basically cheat flexibility but hey....

Yeah it's annoying, i think i might just end up sending them a cheque tbh, i just started thinking about exchange rates and shit and all the hassle made me want to take a nap, they look pretty good for the money, either way i won't want to DL in them so the chucks won't go to waste and i refuse to squat or DL in my cheapo trainers again in the meantime

Are the chuck taylors the same as the converse all stars you see everywhere in all sorts of colours? Look the same to me.

Yeah... 'Chuck Taylor Converse All-Star high tops' are what we're talking about.

Yep, I know the ones, just never knew they were called chucks!!
High tops are the way forward then? Might have to pick a pair up cheap :)

If you squat wide or sumo DL the high tops will obviously give you more ankle support, they just looked too gay for my liking though
