I hate it when my journal get past 10 pages. Don't ask why. There is no rational explanation. Anyway, I am starting a new routine on monday. Going to stick to it for 6 weeks without fail.

1.
Squat - 5x5
Powerclean - 6x1
Bench - 4x5

2.
Deadlift - 6x1
Row - 5x5
OHP - 4x5

3.
Odd Object work
Grip

Nothing fancy. Just: basic, hard, heavy. I have also mesured some of my bodyparts last night (with the help of Ky). Everything is mesured around the widest point, but not on the joint.

Neck: 18" :045:
Shoulders: 50"
Chest (expanded): 42"
Upper arms: 15"
Forarms: 13"
Wrist: 6.25"
Waist: 34" :022:
Upper leg: 25" :022:
Lower leg: 14" :022:
Bodyweight today: 81kg :022:
Bodyfat %age (guess): 11%

Some of those mesurements are smaller than last tiome i mesured, but others are much bigger. My neck for exmaple has gone from 15" to 18" in a matter of months. My upper leg, dissapointingly, is smaller -and my bodyweight lower than a month ago. Though you wouldn't know, as on the whole I look bigger and biggger with every passing week. those mesurements will be updated every month. As will bodyweight and rough BF estimation.

Your legs are tiny, eeeeeeat. Your wrists are tiny, are they small for your height? I cant picture it.

Add weight to the bar every week, I will not tolerate excuses.

And good luck :045: :D

I'm not tall at any rate. So i suppose they are about average for what was once a 5'9'' ecto.

I'm not sure what you mean? Are you questioning these mesurements? Do i honestly have to put up pics with the tape on them? I thought it was just MT that had call outs on? The tape doesn't dig in, but its not loose either. You can't mesure it yourself, get someone else to do it, like Mrs Help for example.

God I am fired up about this new routine. Some serious DOMS in the chest and tris today after flyes and pushdowns yesterday.

WTF!!

Robert
21-10-2004, 09:03
Yesterday i did benching [Bench - 5RM, CGBench - 3x5, OHP 2x2+2x1] but that was all over in 20mins, so did 3x6 flyes and 4x10 pushdowns. Yeah.

Did you get a good pump? You should have supersetted the flyes with cable cross-overs, you know, to get a better pump/burn...

Why bother benching anyway? On another forum ( :112: ), someone said the pec deck is the best chest exercise anyway...

Can you guys please stop bashing and poking fun at Rob for using a specific choice of exercise

this is not a powerlifting board and people need to remember that

I know, and Rob knows :023:

But others viewing the board may be discouraged from joining, because the atmosphere is geared totally towards those whose main discipline is powerlifting.

As far as I am aware pikey does not want this forum to be anti bodybuilder

I agree - Although not many people tend to agree with me I have often said that ANY exercise can be pruductive if it is done with high enough intensity
I would say someone using a pec dec intensely would progress better than someone doing Bench presses with little intenstiy -just my opinion though

I'm 6'2".

I have small joints all over, but the don't seem to affect me in anyway. My grip is more than adequate for what I want to do and I don't have any wrist problems benching or OH pressing.

Sounds a lot like me. Small joints doesnt = low strength.

with all due respect i disagree. I don't know robert, mike, help, or anyone else for that matter. but in my opinion people see the posts for what they are, people that like robert trying to advise him. what he does with that advice is his own choosing.

Though I am an outsider I see a glaring differance between what is happening in this journal and an all out attack.

I would think others can see the disparity also. my outside opinion anyway.

I think anyone is criticising Rob's goals, only his means of getting there...

I think we all know that Rob is training for strength (it's in his profile, among other things) and specifically, he's trying to improve his bench as it's comparitively weak. Given this, I think it's fair to say that conventional strength training wisdom suggests that pec flys and pushdowns aren't the ideal means of getting there.

Robert
21-10-2004, 17:19
LOL. Cheers Knighty.

Ian, i haven't used the stinky pec-dec. I just did some flyes. They are more productive than not doing them. I only bench once a week so its not like it has affected my recovery. Though I like Matt's approach (everything can be productive) i think that it doesn't apply to everything (Leg ext etc etc). I welcome all comments, though I usually don't take much notice of them. :045:

Today i got to the fcuking gym, only to find the manager had decided to tape off the weights room cos its being re-decorated. :(

So my workout went thus:

Gimpy leg press machine type gay thing - 3x15xWhole stack
Gimpy lady boy gimp mobile leg curl tosh box - 3x15x2/3 stack
Gimp suit chimp loving sh1t eating homo device for rowing - 3x20xWhole stack

Stretch, steam bath, 2 pints milk, home. Load of fcuking tosh.

Well pissed offf. What a waste of energy.

Before I start, I want to make some things absolutely clear. I have not enjoyed training at all for these last 4 or so weeks. Its my own fault, i have no specific goals ATM. I can't stive for something i am not interested in getting. Right this second I want to reach 15 stone as fast as possible. The notion of squatting 200kg feels strangely alien, it does make me want to do it.

I am more than aware you can gain mass via a strength routine, but anyone who thinks you can gain mass as effectively on a strength routine as you can on a purely hypertrophy orientated routine is kidding themselves. JohnnyFives Hypertrophy routine proved that more than enough for me.

Right now i need to enjoy my training, I need to re-kindle that feeling I had when I first started training, because frankly, its gone. If I carry on trying out different strength routines I can see myself giving up on weight training altogether. I would like to apologise to Tom for not keeping a promise to follow 5x5 for 6 weeks as he asked. Maybe in a month or two when I start to enjoy training again I might be able to set some serious goals. Mods, can you lock this journal.
